I just spoke to Remington and they cleared up the confusion I had - some of the 700 SPS Tacticals (the older ones) have a 1 in 12" twist. Others (more recent ones) have a 1 in 9" twist.

Thanks for the research, btw. I was planning on calling them myself. Now only if I could find a decent online source for them...

teombe,

the remington customer support rep said that the sps tactical is only available through "Remington Premier Dealers." She said that you can go to the Remington website and look for a list of Premier Dealers by state,

http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/premier_dealer_exclusives/

If you go to the Premier Dealers page (see link above) then scroll down towards the middle of the page, there's a Remington Premier Dealer Search section with a drop down box that lets you select a state and list all of its Remington Premier dealers.

My local Remington Dealer told me, though, that it might be difficult to determine if the gun that a distributor has in stock is a 1:12 or a 1:9 gun. He said that to his knowledge this info is not listed on the box. If you're looking for a specific twist rate, see if your dealer can get the serial number of the gun you're thinking about getting. Then call Remington and have them tell you whether the gun has the specific twist/turn rate you are looking for.

Good luck!
