In the past few weeks, discovering that I'm a little low in primers for shotgun, I've struck up conversations at the leagues where I shoot (3 of them). Hey, anybody got any wants? Anybody got primers?
Traded a couple 20 round boxes of 30-30 for a thousand WW209s. Traded a new sealed box of 32 H&R mag brass for another.
Found a guy who dropped out of the club last year who had a little stash of 1 1/8 ounce trap loads. Got six flats for six boxes of cast/lubed bullets and a couple pounds of pistol powder.
One guy who heard us talking walked up and gave me two cans of powder, from the sixties. One pound of Bullseye in the square metal can with pop top still sealed and another can of HiVel#2, same condition.
I'm working on a deal on a nib 870 field gun with a guy that has seven. I used my last backup to rebuild my son's when the receiver cracked.
While I'm doing this, some of the guys in the club sit and bitch about no shells, no components but all they do is sit and bitch...don't go looking.

Yup. A good bunch of buddies is better than standing in line at BPS. I barter trade and buy and sometimes folks are just nice enough to give me stuff. It’s how people are when you give first - and when you ask kindly. In this world, if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

I sold a couple flats of Win. promo shells that I can't shoot anyway to the club, and I probably don't have to buy another round for the rest of leagues this year. I sold 1000 Small Pistol to a shooting buddy. Next AA flat I pick up at work goes to another guy who drilled my 870 stock for a Gra-Coil. (He has the jig.)

I dunno ... I tend to focus on myself and my personal needs being the hubristic egocentric self-serving person that I am.

In today's world I'd either want a nice car or your 20-something year old smokeshow daughter for a tray of primers ... small pistol or #41s of course. I'm not an unfair man.

and that’s why us reloaders are a different breed from the gun community. We don’t panic, we make the best of a hard situation and we are full of grit!

If it makes anybody feel better about The (Ongoing) Great Primer Shortage of 2020, chicken wing costs for 2021 alone are up nearly 100%; fryer oil has also increased more than 120% this year; and gasoline is over $3/gallon in markets where it was under $1.20/gallon (approaching $1/gallon) in late 2019. It's not just our hobby, it's all costs and producer inflation is going up alarmingly. There are bargains to be had, still, but you're going to have to put some effort into it.

Of course, those who have plenty and want for nothing need not be concerned. I'm sure you have more food - fresh and preserved - gasoline, diesel, electricity, medicines and other necessary supplies stocked up, in anticipation of these shortages, to last for two or more election cycles. :)

Would you accept my 40-something psychotic sister-in-law? She looks nice in the right kind of light and is actually mostly pleasant when she takes her med's. Tula LPP's are acceptable but, you have to keep her. No deposits. No returns.

That’s all a lot of people want to do. If they had plenty, they would complain about having all these boxes of primers with no time to load/shoot, the rain or sun, heat or cold. Any reason to complain or be negative.

Well around here the barter system is alive and well and has been for a number of years. The local reloaders do get along and help out others when needed. One of the local lobster fisherman I shoot with occasionally who is single will swap lobsters for homemade pies and meatloaf meals from several of the little old ladies in the elderly housing. Everybody wins!

Spent the better part of my life trying to create win-win situations. If there's a loser in any deal I'm involved with, I haven't done my part.

Lobster for meatloaf. I'm not sure entirely who's doing better or worse on that deal. ;) I do love me some good meatloaf!

Local guy needed shotshell primers for a project. He offered 1000 LPP in trade for 500 209 primers. Took a few months but I finally scored some winchester 209 primers for him. He was elated. He also gave me 500 357 magnum cases as I was short.

I have some good news. We may be "turning the corner on this mess". Yes, I traded some Large Rifle Magnum primers for some .357 JHP, but I found some encouraging information. I invest in Vista Outdoors. I watch their stock reports. Vista has a billion$ in back-orders. They bought Remington Ammunition late last year. And they put Remington back into the ammo business. Many people have asked why doesn't primer companies expand? Vista Outdoors thought why build when one can buy a ammo plant that just needs up-grading.
Since 2018, a year before Covid-19, Remington Ammo reduced their work force to only 400 people. Prior to that over 800 people had worked there and they peaked their employees to 1200 in 2014. Since Vista bought Remington ammo, they have brought back some 300 experienced employees and there is plenty more room for expansion. Now understand they are also updating the plant and distributing Remington Ammo through their existing sales network to help speed up the process. According to a NRA article as ammo becomes more available, so will reloading supplies.

I would phrase that "as ammo demand drops below maximum production capacity, components will be released into the reloading market."
At least our LGS's are out of the, "I'll buy anything with a trigger," customers. Still some craziness (a relative term) but ammo is re-appearing slowly and it's EX-PEN-SIVE! but it's coming in.

How long before we see $9/box 115gr. FMJ 9mm plinking ammo? Probably never. Just with inflation and devaluing of the dollar, $15 is the new $9.

Just made a deal like this today! I'm getting low on Fed GM205M primers, and my buddy is low on CCI 200's.... He has plenty of GM 205M's and I have plenty of CCI 200's. Swap made! Just did another one with a different buddy, I traded him 85gr RDF's for 77gr SMK's, we were both happy! There's a good sized group of us that let each other know when components are in stock, and we do a pretty fair amount of trading! It has seemed to happen a lot more than normal in the last year or so....

my local gun club is having a swap meet, I’m going to try to trade SPP for LPP. I just got into .45acp and been using SPP brass, I want to try the real stuff. Anyways, I have plenty of SPP but zero LPP

If you can't make a trade ping me on IM. I have a bunch of SPP .45ACP brass I've been saving for when I run out of LPP but I got a good trade on some LPP so I can spare it, if needed.

Shipping plain brass = $$ + A-OK!
Shipping LPP/SPP = 15-20 in Leavenworth + No Bueno!

thanks bud! I’ll keep you in mind!

I love to barter, it's been a way of life for me since I was a kid . My best trade ever was a well seasoned German shorthair I had given to me . I showed up at a pheasant hunting guides house down the road and asked if he knew of anyone interested in a dog that needed to hunt . Traded a guy for pic of the litter from his Spaniels . Best dog that ever owned me. I would have been happy with a thank you and a handshake , bartering can bring out the best of folks sometimes.

That's too funny, how about I throw in an almost 40 yr old felon stepson that thinks everything my wife and I have is his for the taking. Just kidding I couldn't in good conscience do that to a highroad member.

I do have some lpp leftover from early 2k that I no longer have a gun for. Iirc 300 I'd have to look again.

I was going to say I'd trade my 57 yo wife for 2 28.6's, but I already raised my children and don't want to raise the pair of them.

did I say grit…I ment grease! lol

Case lube and lubealox.
