Hey guys,
I would much appreciate it if any of you experienced shooters could give me some suggestions on base mounts and rigs for my 10 FCP HS rifle. This is my very first rifle. I have never shot or owned one before. I trying to put together a nice but not too expensive package for it. I was planning on doing long range paper target shooting with it. starting out at 100-200 yards and move on to the 500-800 yard range when I get better. So I did some research and finally settled on a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x40mm MilDot scope for it.

However I have no clue on where to begin when looking for bases and mounts for it. I can't want to pay for any of the top of the line stuff yet I don't want to settle for really cheap low quality either. Something middle of the road would suffice I guess. Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks guys!

Thoko,For a base I like using a Ken Farrell 1pc base, but Weaver makes a really nice base for a whole lot less.
I just put a Weaver 1pc base on the Model 12-308 I put together,it looks and works just as good as the Ken Farrell base that I have on 3 other rifles. For shooting at longer ranges, get a 20moa base, then you won't run out of elevation adjustment on your scope.

The only rings that I'll buy anymore are Burris Signature Zee rings,IMO,they are the best rings ever made, plus with the inserts,no more ring marks on your scopes. They also sell an offset insert kit that allows you to have up to 40moa adjustment without buying a 20moa base.

The Ferrell bases are nice, but they aren't cheap. If you want quality without paying top dollar prices...take a look at EGW...also consider getting the 20MOA height to allow you to shoot further.

I have a few EGW parts because they are 30 minutes from my house, but they make some quality parts. $40 isn't a bad price to pay for a good base. Just make sure you select the right base for your Savage since Savage likes to change things on their rifles. Savage has a flat and rounded rear receiver.

Hey guys,
Thank you so much for all your input. However, I do have a question. What exactly do you guys mean by a "20moa" base? Sorry, I am new to all of this so I haven't the first clue. How does having a 20moa base allow me to shoot further?
Thanks!

EGW are good bases and rings and won't break the bank. I went with Nightforce base and rings for my NXS 5.5-22x50

Many of these bases have a cant of 20moa so your scope doesn't run out of elevation for long distance shots.

Btw I have the same gun and with my hand loads my rounds went pretty much in the same hole at 100 yds when I zeroed my scope and at 600 yd some rounds were 2-8"
