Walking through a gun show a few weeks ago. An old Gil Hebard box caught my eye. Had a 1981 post mark on it. Inside was a Bo-Mar winged rib for a S&W model 10 or 19. (which I don't have) (yet)

So I bought the rib, because, well because I felt sorry for it. (yeah I know, but therapy isn't any cheaper than a big gun collection) (and Therapy has NO resale value)

I'm shooting a Smith model 14 for DR matches and doing quite well. Have a Ruger GP-100 as a potential backup for DR competition.

I've always loved the look of a custom revolver with a winged rib on the top.

I see that CDNN has lots of department turn in model 65 revolvers. Since I'd be having a smith install a custom barrel with the new rib, wondering about the frames that would make a good choice for building up.

How is the model 65 as far as sturdy frame, lock-up, etc. I must confess my ignorance and say I don't even know which frame the 65 is built from. J, K ?

Looking for opinions and experience of other wheel gun owners.
Thanks in advance,
Dan

Reply to my own thread?

What about a colt? I don't currently own any Colt Pistols. Used to own a Python from the custom shop. Great smooth Double action but didn't really like it because it looked "too good" Always afraid I should keep it beautiful rather than actually "shoot it."

Goes against my grain so sold it to someone who appreciated pretty.

Now, what colt revolver would be a great base for a custom barrel, bo-mar rib, revolver? I'm liking this idea more and more.

Caliber either .38 or .357
Thanks

Took the plunge and ordered a S&W

Called CDNN and placed a pinned barrel model 64 on order. They didn't have any more model 65 with pinned barrel. Probably best anyway. I'd shoot mostly .38 special through it any way.

Now just have to arrange for a custom barrel and get my local smith to build me a winged rib pin gun.
I'll take before and after pictures.
