Bass Pro Price Matching on Guns

Final word from me. I think it's important for the little people to insist that corporations act in a fair and just way. This small matter is really no different than an insurance company wrongfully denying a claim. It's a breach of a promise, a contract. Make no mistake that when a retail company offers a product for sale and you accept it this makes a contract. If the terms and conditions of that sale are clearly outlined and you accept that and try to buy the product which they then refuse to sell to you that is a breach of contract. A contract in retail settings begins with two essential elements, offer and acceptance. As soon as I go to the counter and try to pay, I've accepted the offer. If someone posts a price at Sears for a tool I want, they can't at the last second when I try to pay say, "oh, the price changed, but we forgot to change the sign". Sorry buddy. That sign was your offer.

What Bass Pro could possibly be in trouble with if they continue to not honor their own price matching policy as I've read in online stories is what is called in Florida a violation of the The Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (“FDUTPA”). FDUTPA is a consumer-protection related law designed to allow parties to sue other parties for deceptive and unfair trade or business practices. This could potentially turn into a class action against them and they would be on the hook for major attorney's fees. So, if BP reads this, you have been warned. Don't say you didn't know.

I guess I'm the only one here who thinks you should have just hit up one of all those several shops that had it on sale that day, rather than bother a bunch of good folks at their place of work because you think you should get your way.

Bravo
It's their job. If they don't like what they are doing they should move on.

Good job Gunlawyer101. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your transaction. And there was certainly no reason for any of the managers to be anything but courteous to you. The price difference wasn't coming out of the their pockets.

I've never understood what the advantage of "price matching" is. If you're just going to "match" the price, I'll just buy it at the place with the lowest price in the first place. You're not doing me a favor "matching" it. BEAT it, if you want my business.

Even if they beat the price, I wouldn't stand around jawing with a half dozen people over rather they're going to do it or not. It's not that important to me.

Price matching works because you are already in the store. You see an item, do a quick search on your phone, and find it is cheaper across town. Yes, you could drive across town to buy the item but why go through the extra hassle if the store you are standing in will match that price?
