We have an amazing grassroots capacity. Can we openly protest the BATF? Letters are easy to hide particularly since these bureaucrats aren't elected and have almost no culpability.

They are federal employees........they don't give a rats patooty if you picket their offices at the Federal building in Anytown, USA.

Your grassroots capacity is better spent on lobbying Congress.

Picket where and for what? Which BATFE office would you picket? Which BATFE overreach would we protest? You have to have specific grievances to be effective in a picket campaign. Such an effort needs to be large enough to be effective (or sustained enough).

If a protest campaign in every sympathetic, meaning a Senator or Representative that would react to some guys with signs protesting in their state capitol, could get news media attention that would be effective in highlighting the issue, but that has to be coupled with the letter writing and emailing and calling those elected officials to tell the that their voters expect them to put a stop to the specific issue (in this case the BATFE proposal to ban the sale of M855 ball ammunition to the public).

How bout you tell your Sen or Rep that if he's not working for you, you're going to vote for someone else who will. And then follow through. Letter writing and all this other nonsense and then dutifully voting for the guy because of the letter beside his name come election time is insane. You see what we have up there in DC. Nothing but garbage.

Local field offices don't make policy, and don't really communicate with those who do in DC.

I talked to my local field office last year regarding a gunsmithing issue where the guy clearly broke the law. Those guys enforce regulations for the most part, and occasionally participate in criminal investigations. Picketing them wouldn't do any good, unless your goal is to further inform random passers-by.
