I have a red ryder and a buckmaster bb gun. Im pretty good with both of em, to the point where I can hit a golf tee at about 10 feet or so. What could I try thats a harder shot as Im out of ideas. I can already hit pop bottle lids, the ocasional nail, and tabs on cans. Frankly Im out of ideas. Also I apoligize if this is the wrong area for bb guns.

LOL! I wish my old Red Ryder still worked! We may all be shooting BB guns if the ammo craze doesn't stop.

When I was a kid we would try to shoot the petals off of my grandmother's flowers :D

I had a Daisy pellet gun with a nice little scope on it, when I was young. I got proficient enough with it that I could knock pea gravel off of the top rail of our backyard fence from across the yard.

Here is one that's always mesmerized me...
A childhood friend of mine had a grandpa that was VERY good with a BB gun. He would stick matches in the ground and light them individually with the BB gun. He could hit the match head and it would ignite!
I know your gonna want to try that one.

I tried the matchsticks, I couldnt pull it off with the few I had, Just kept shootin off the head. I assume youd have to graize it just right and I havnt found that point yet. I gotta get a box of matchs, as this is a neat trick. Next time Im at the range Ill save a few .22 caseings to try and shoot into them.

Try shooting a die off of the golf tee, without knocking the tee over. Then of course there is always aspirin, line them up on a fence pole or a shoe box and sit them up on their sides. Match sticks sounds like a lot of fun as well.

Man, I was so good with my Red Ryder. I didn't even use the sights, I just shot instinctively.

I like the aspirin and match stick idea. You may want to try paintballs as well. Not as small, but reactive =D

I'm a pretty big airgun guy, so I like to have with them:D My Red Rider must have a loose barrel because it is horribly inaccurate. But there are a few shots I like to try with it: Set up a steel plate at an angle and try to richoete shots off the plate into a target. Not really that hard but looks impressive. I can split playing cards with my IZH-46, but my favorite trick is with a .22 pellet gun. Take a cheap knife and stick it in a bale of hay. Put balloons on either side... you get the idea.

Heck try the 10 meter match target for air rifle shooting....................... the 10spot is literally a dot in the center of the 9 ring that is the size of this period .

You can print off some of these : http://www.reloadbench.com/pdf/files/10M%20Airgun%20Target.pdf and add the center dot and see how many you can hit.....................it ain't real easy I can assure you. :)

And if you just have to have a reactionary target..... Tic Tacs and Life Savers are tasty targets.

I use a Crossman 1377 ( I think that's the number, It's the .177 cal. pump pistol) I set up the straws from brake cleaner cans at 3 yards, and cut them in half.

BUT, by far the best reaction targets I have shot are the old style flash bulbs (the kind that look like tail light bulbs for a car), Shoot them with new, clean b-b's, as the copper passes rapidly thru the tungston filament, it sets off the flash bulb. (also, the bulbs are plastic coated so there is no glass to clean up)

I'd try aerial targets and instinct shooting. IMO, that's really the sort of thing BB guns are best at. BB guns are just inherently too inaccurate to challenge you for very long with stationary targets. It won't take long for you to get good enough to outshoot your gun.

You might try looking up "quick kill". This was the training program used by the Army back in the Vietnam era. They taught recruits how to make snap shots using Daisy BB guns with no sights. Apparently some of the recruits got good enough that they could hit bb's that were thrown in the air.

With my old Red Ryder: Coke cans at 50 feet. Grasshoppers at 20 feet. A 3-4" steel pole at 75 feet. I was shooting 1-handed and quick shoulder and fire towards the end. Still drilling the Coke cans at 50 feet. My brick target stand still stands out back. I memorized the sight settings for the various ranges I was shooting at.

Most modern matches are of the "safety" variety; for them to light you must strike them against the chemically treated striking pad on the box or pack. You'll need "Strike Anywhere Matches" for this trick to have a chance at working.

Ok Im going to try some asprin and Paintballs are already on the list, just gotta buy some. The die sounds almost too easy. Ill try the targets too, But I dont think I have 10 meters Of back yard space to set up a target.

Gambit

10 meters is only 11 yards - hopefully you can find that much space.................if not, those targets are STILL very challenging at closer ranges.

A good challenge with my crossman in the basement is 10 meters with small little army men. The cheap plastic molded ones that come in buckets.

I line up about 5-10 of them in a row and try to get them down in streaks. It's really flippin hard and I found that the best way to hold the rifle is against the wall with my arm to keep it steady.

Good game when company comes over as we usually set a rule that if you knock one down, you go again until you miss.
