Hello , I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this brand of target stand? Or is the dillon model better(hartmann stand)....

Thanks

FIFTY BUCKS? Good grief. Get a two by four and a one by two. Cut a foot off one end of the two by four and cut it in half (ok cut two six inch pieces). Cut the one by two and the remaining two by four (the long one) in half.

In the center of one side of each of the long two by fours, cut a notch to hold a one by two and nail one of the six inch two by fours over it.

To set it up, lay the two by fours on the ground, target width apart and stick a one by two in each hole. Staple your cardboard target to the top ends of the one by twos.

Total cost about five bucks.
You are paying forty five bucks for the stability of the cross piece on the bottom. (This can be offset with a little effort and another two by for and four notches)

I've got one. NOT WORTH THE MONEY!

I'm not big on construction, but those welds are just ugly. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but you don't, repeat, don't have to have a bunch of splatter around the bead! You want to be a professional and sell your works, make a clean weld.

The biggest sore point for me is that the stand isn't wide enough to staple an IDPA/ISPC target at the edges. Instead, the firring strips pass through the target area and get shot up pretty quickly. This might not be a problem for master-class shooter that tear out the -0 ring, but start shooting faster than you can or getting less-practiced shooters out there, and you'll be replacing stakes very often. I've probably had to replace one or both stakes a half-dozen times in the year I've had the stand.

I can't speak for the dillon, but I'd be sure to call them and see how wide the stakes are in relation to a standard IDPA/IPSC target. Of course, if you aren't going to use these types of targets, or you are doing precision shooting from a rest, this might not be a concern for you. Either way, I'd look at the Dillon before I looked at the Beast. That's what I'm doing, right now.

Another option, and one I hesitate to propose only for political reasons, is the stand offered by Wilson Combat. From what I saw on their Advanced Shooting video with Ken Hackathorn, it offers a lot of versatility and is very durable. One base and you can add the uppers that suit you best (like a U-loop for an IDPA target or a steel plate holder). It's an idea; don't know what it costs, but it has to be cheaper than buying stakes every few weeks.

The Wilson's look better construction-wise than the portatarget. Not saying they are better overall, just a better desing. I could be wrong, though, what are the odds of that???

I'd definitely be interested in the TargetBarn's products after browsing through their website. Half the price of the Beast, but wide enough to allow an IDPA/IPSC target?! That's just unbelievable.

Why didn't I ask here before buying that blasted stand!! :cuss:
