I have owned and used Beast Enterprises, now known as MOA Targets (moatargets.com) target stands for several years and want to compliment them on a well made sturdy all metal target stand. Not only are they well made and easy to set up they have a lifetime warranty as well. I was recently at the range with some friends and one fellow was a bit off target and hit the base with his .45 acp pistol with several rounds. He did enough damage to make the stand unusable. Even though the company is under new ownership they immediately agreed to replace the stand and only asked for a photo of the damage and didn’t even ask for the damaged stand back. That is what I call outstanding customer service.

I've made my target holders out of 2" square steel tubing and 1/4" strapping. In fact a 2X4 split down the middle fit in the square holes perfectly. so far no one has shot the base yet.

Election time is next week.
After it is over?

Nobody ever comes back to collect the high quality welded steel campaign sign / Target Stands they leave stuck in the ground all over, littering the roadsides!

Think Free welded steel target stands.
All you have to do is pop out the sign, and replace it with a piece of cardboard.

(Or not, if you want to leave the evidence.) :D

While helping to collect litter and clean up the country of abandoned, and unloved campaign signs!!

RC--that is genius. I just might grab a few after election day. Will make me especially happy to grab some of the ones from the people I didn't vote for.

I build the 1" box tube and 1x2" box tube and wood style.

Bring in the stake pockets so they will nest.

Also notch the side of the 1x2 so they cannot hold water.

I even built one modular stand that is kind of neat. It can be made as large as you have sticks for and I used 1x2's for the feet as well so you can run them into them and make it so it won't move even without staking.

It is the one far in the distance on the right setup around 3x6'. As long as you have a good spotting scope it saves a bunch of trips as you can hang a lot more targets on one that size.

That is what I do. Only problem is I need to build a target stand for non-election season :D

I am sure if I shot up politician signs in an anti-gun state, it would be a felony. Benefit of fleeing to the deep south.

Make sure you check with the campaign before you start taking the signs. At least in Utah, they're still property of the campaign until they actively state otherwise. I use quite a few of the cheap H-frame signs from some of the local politicians. Most of them are more than happy to be rid of them, but I've talked to more than a couple that were adamant about getting them back.

I believe in simple and cheap. 2x4's are cheap, easy to work with, easy to replace. I build a simple 2' wide by 4' tall target frame, then a base to slip the frame in. Easy to build, easy to transport, sturdy, stable in the wind, easy to break down. I have several.

I've always used these wire sign holders from Home Depot. They're a dollar each and I use two per target to stick them in the ground. I use any and all types of plain cardboard for the target itself, which is essentially free if you look for boxes in dumpsters and what not. Cut into the shape of a silhouette for handgun or square for rifle, spray paint target dots or buy adhesive targets, and viola, targets on a budget. These are also much easy to carry downrange, so I can take 5 or 6 with me and walk 4 or 500 yards, setting up targets along the way.

Two years ago I stopped some county workers after election day as they were pulling up election signs. Polite asking netted me a trunkful of signs. They also mentioned that anything stuck between the street and sidewalk was illegal and that I could pull all those up before the election anyway. They spend a lot of time picking up illegal signs for months before every election and I would be helping them out as those are considered litter.
