I have a gorgeous Mauser about like this one. .30-06 on a K98 WW2 action. There’s no collector value but if the trigger is nice and it fits you, it’s hard to see how you can go wrong for $300. A .30-06 is the most versatile hunting round that exists.

Snagged my 30-06 Mauser for $150 last year:

Those are beautiful. I would loved to have put a nice classical wood stock on my Brazilian Mauser, but the Hogue Overmounded was cheaper, and I like the feel of them a lot anyway. They just don't look pretty.

The triggerguard appears to have a gold color -- could it be either plated or anodized? Can't make out from the photos whether the side rail is thumb cut for strippers. It appears that the clip slot on rear bridge was military, perhaps milled down to accept the scope base. Finish on the safety is different, appears newer than the rest of the action. 1950s California styling and finish on the stock. My guess agrees with Random 8: a custom job on a military action.

Nice looker at a good price -- except for the white lines. A plague on whomever came up with white line spacers!

i waited to long thought i would low ball him to take 280$ big mistake:(

I''d have paper cuts from the speed at which I'd have drawn $300 from my pocket for that.

Scope, mount and rings are worth around half of that to me. The rifle alone? Over twice the asking price.

Of course, after inspection.

Those safeties were an accommodation for rear-ward mounted scopes as were the beautifully curved bolt handles.

Todd.

Looks like it had some nice wood on it, had a little bit of fiddleback look to it. Someone got a good deal it seems with the Timney and the wood.

Nice looking Axis, Space Ghost. I agree with adcoc 1 about the looks of the action but a decent stock does help a great deal.

As to the OP, someone got a nice rifle at a very good price If it turns out to be a even a half way decent shooter. White line spacers aren't that bad to me and they used to be quite common on better grade rifles.

I like the white line spacers because all the good quality rifles had them in the gun catalogs back when I was a kid. It was something I aspired to own one day...

Its funny the way things you see as a kid tends to stick. I still to this day wants a red Suzuki Gsx 1100, although ive own far better bikes..

I'd have to see the proof marks on the bottom of the receiver, but FN made a lot of 98 Mauser actions that were as good or better than the German made ones. Then they made them into sporting rifles. Great guns if one - such as me, for instance - likes quality bolt action rifles shooting serious calibers.
