Don't get me wrong. I've got a CSX, and I like it, but before there was a micro 9mm with an aluminum frame, there was...
The Model 39-2. An aluminum frame, 9mm, DA/SA with a decocker, and an eight rounds single stack magazine plus one in the chamber. This was a big deal in the 50's/60's when they first came out showing a real increase in firepower over six shot revolvers. The D/A trigger, well, the best I can call it is 8 pounds plus. My gauge only goes to 8, but the S/A is a really nice four pounds.
A Model 39-2 (not THIS one) was the second centerfire semi-auto pistol I ever bought. I had been bit by the IPSC bug and my first one was a Colt Series 70 in 45. Then I realized that a 9mm might be better in some situations, when it's slightly larget magazine capacity might let me skip a reload. That's what is called "Wishful thinking." I don't think I ever even shot that gun, much less shot it in a match.
What I did find however was that I loved the way the gun felt in my hand. Like it was handed to me warm, and it molded itself to my hand. It was flat and light, and slipped into a Bianchi soft leather IWB holster with a simple clip, and just disappeared under any kind of cover garment. Too bad there was no such thing as a regular person getting a CHP in those days before "shall issue" permits. That didn't stop me from slipping it inside my pants when I was heading into a sketchy part of town. I figured if I had to use it the "no concealed weapon permit" charge would be the least of my problems. I hope the statute of limitations has passed on that.
And it looked, and still does, like a million bucks IMHO. Don't let the lousy light fool you. It's got some scratches, and even a little rust, but she's not in bad shape for the shape she's in.
I need to shoot it more.
