I've had several Norincos. If you do go that route take a very close look at the are of the barrel locking lugs and the grooves in the slide. Norinco had a tendency to screw that area up. I think you would be more satisfied with a RIA or the Regent. I bought a Amercian Classic II and I couldn't be happier with it. I fitted it with some better grips and a nighthawk medium trigger (I didn't like the long trigger). The finish is a nice plished blue instead of the matt blue/black of the others and it has functioned 100% through several hundred rounds.

Like i was saying in my intial post.I didnt want to buy used /esp for a first 1911 as im a newb and dont exactly know what warning signs to watch for.If it(norinco) was new it would have made my desicion harder for sure. For the price, good reviews, and great customer service that ive been reading about i thought the RIA was a good entry level gun for me.

Miles, you won't find a new Norinco in the US. Importation of Chinese made handguns & rifles was banned in 1993, but they can still import shotguns.

Ahh..ok.Didnt realize that.Im assuming there good value for the money as well regardless of new/used status?

Miles, because of the import ban I don't have a ton of hands on experience with the Norincos. They're supposed to be a good value, but folks like 1911Tuner and 9mmEpiphany can give you a truly educated evaluation.

R1

Slightly outside your range, but American made, good quality entry level gun. I have 1,000 rounds through mine without a whimper.

Plan on taking my first RIA GI 1911 to the range tommorow.Im planning on shooting between 50-100 rounds thru it.Ill post my results.Gonna use the factory mag and blazer 230gr 45ACP ammo for those interested.

I'd scan over at the 1911forum.com and read through the brand specific sections. Your RIA choice will not be frowned on.

Well i took my RIA to the range today.Using blazer aluminum 230gr ammo.I put 100 rounds thru with no problem. No FTE or FTF issues at all.Accuracy was good at 25 and 50 meters.Trigger broke consistent and the factory mag gave me no trouble either. Will be picking up more ammo and i think a mcormick mag tommorow.Very happy with my purchase and a good first impression with my 1911.

I'd love to handle one of the ACC but they seem to be few and far between,I was hoping Buds would get one in as I live here in Lex but it seems they want your cash up front.Thats kinda hard to do for me sight unseen.I've got a 1911 itch that needs to be scratched again.

ATI - I bought a couple from a nice guy on this forum. Finally shot the commander last weekend. With the McCormick power mags I bought on recommendation, it fed FMJ and JHP great. Really nice pistols.

I would get a Springfield milspec. It is a bit more money but has taller sights and a larger ejection port.

a friend has a RIA and it malfunctions every time he takes it out. He sent it back to RIA and it still has malfunctions.

I also hear the new Ruger is a good buy.
