Looking for a good used 1911 under $800-ish

At $800, no real need to buy used. My opinion, best dollar for dollar 1911 in that price point is going to be the Springfield Range Officer or Ruger SR1911. I have no experience with the Ruger but from all that I've read of them, they seem to be a solid gun.

If you want bang for the buck, consider a Norinco 1911A1. These Chinese made guns are widely used as a platform for custom 1911's. They can be found on GB for $500+. Legend has it that they were made from Colt equipment, whatever that means. I consider mine as a "blue collar" gun, something that you definitely don't want to be on its business end.

I bought a used Tisas for $300.

It shoots just fine for a basic 1911A1.

No Marine on Guadalcanal could have desired a more reliable 1911A1.
