I am a journeyman toolmaker who has recently taken an interest in gunsmithing. I would like to know if anyone knows where I could get prints for making some of the jigs and fixtures used in gunsmithing. I look at the pictures in the Brownells catalog and know that I could make these tools for a lot less cost if I had prints!

You may have to buy them and get your own measurements to build from then sell the items. You'll get most of your money back. I do not know of any place that would have detailed drawings of these types of things since they are most likely patented and/or proprietary.

Most gunsmithing schools teach the students to make some of the more popular ones. The magazine "Home Shop Machinest" (at least I think that's the title, I'm a long ways from mine at this time) has a gunsmithing column that occasionally features plans. I believe they also have a book of those available.

Most of the ones I use are home made. many just from figuring out what i wanted them to do. Many of the older (darn hard to find) gunsmithing books will show special tools also.

Last, you can find all the special tools for U.S. military arms in the appropriate TM's & FM's.

Luxone, What tools are you looking for? I have plans for some of the Winchester tools for their older firearms and some S&W tools also. The publication "American Gunsmith" which is a monthly rag on gunsmithing also has plans for tools from time to time. It is a publication of the American Gunsmithing assoc. It's about $40.00 a year and back issues are available. It's well worth the money. They can be reached at [email protected]. Let us know what you come up with. An exchange of tool plans between members would be great.
