Mobile execution vans that dispense lethal injection deemed 'more humane'

Hailed by Chinese media as a significant advancement in China's judicial system, Beijing recently rolled out 18 mobile execution vans.

The government took them for a test drive last Thursday, executing two farmers from Yunnan province who were convicted of heroin trafficking, according to Beijing Today.

The newspaper reported the men "benefited" from a "more humane method of dispatch" and that Liu Huafu, 21, and Zhou Chaojie, 25, died peacefully within one minute of receiving lethal injections in one of the new vans.

Earlier that day, Yunnan's legal authorities approved the use of 18 specially converted vans to be distributed among the province's 17 intermediate courts. In photographs, the vehicles look like ordinary police vans except they are marked with the word "court."

Yunnan Provincial High Court president was quoted as praising the death-on-wheels system.

"The use of lethal injection shows that China's death-penalty system is becoming more civilized and humane," Zhao Shijie said.

But efficiency and cost were foremost on the minds of Yunnan officials, according to the paper.

"With lethal injection, only four people are required to execute the death penalty: one executioner, one member of the court, one from the procuratorate and one forensic doctor. A dozen guards are also required to keep watch around the van," the paper said. "In contrast, many more guards are needed for firing squads, both around the site and along the route from the prison. If the case is well-known and complicated, security needs to be further enhanced and extra expenses are incurred."

Professor Wang Shizhou of Beijing University said it was a "very sad development.

"It will encourage more executions," he predicted.

In his annual report to the National People's Congress, the president of China's Supreme Court reported 819,000 Chinese have been either condemned to death or jailed for more than five years since 1998. This represents a 25 percent increase from the previous five years.

It looks like the Chinese have pirated the "Kevorkian Method", pioneered by Dr. Jack Kevorkian (aka Dr. Death) and adopted it as their own without permission or a licensing agreement. :scrutiny:
I wonder if there is enough evidence to pursue a civil suit on Dr. D's behalf for royalties and copyright infringement?:D

How about a CO2 tranq gun that shoots a dart loaded with nicotine, like they use on rogue bears? Then the van wouldn't even have to stop. They could simply do a drive-by on these guys.

The vans are probably refrigerated.

OR

They figured out, the fresher the better. So those poor bastards are being shot up with some sort of paralyzing drug.

When the doc cuts into them, they are fully aware of their fate, but unable to move.

I don't think the word terror can describe what goes through someones mind, under these circumstances.

F*** the chicoms!, damn savages

Americas fastest growing partner in trade also.

America "rolled out death on wheels" long ago.

I kinda liked the old "traditional" method of execution in Communist China.

Convicted felon was executed with single pistolshot into back of neck. Afterwards, the relatives had to pay for the cost of the bullet.

And then they become organ donors.

Cool.

Cultural differences are amazing. Kind of like Dr. Guillotine coming up with a traveling execution device with a cleaner blade design, no?

Adios

I thought the Nazis had vans that routed the exhaust into the back to kill victims.

Jim, LOL!! I think the modern one is the Crown Vic police cruiser (Ford should be held criminally liable on murder charges for the Crown Vic, by the way.)

So, I guess this means there is a definite shortage of 9mm Makarov and 7.62 Tokarev ammo in China.

How frigging scary is that. Almost reminds me of science fiction books, except its true!
I guess they have so many people in China the govenment says "eh, whats a few hundred thousand dead between friends, heck, Mao killed tens of millions"

Where are you guys getting the organ donor information?

I don't see anything about that.

"They figured out, the fresher the better. So those poor bastards are being shot up with some sort of paralyzing drug."

That's SOP for American lethal injections, as well. A drug to put the person to sleep (normally sodium thiopentothal) is administered first, followed by the paralyzing agent, usually pancuronium bromate, to stop respiration, followed by (in most states) potassium chloride, which interrupts electrical signals in the heart, brain, etc., leading to death.

Most states give the three drugs in concentrations that by themselves would be lethal.

It's not said what the Chinese use, but all of these drugs are common and inexpensive.

Waterdog, hit it right on the head, albeit mildly:
F*** the chicoms!, damn savages

Well, at least they're making it convenient. My uncle had to organize his own transportation to the police station for a little chat when he died of a heart attack.

:cuss:

Best idea I've seen in years. Now if they could just test it on the entire Chinese communist party they would have a good start.

Skunk,

Do you mean what I think you mean about your Uncle?
If so, my condolences.

And I am in agreement about the Chicoms.

Where are you guys getting the organ donor information?

It had been rumored for years that the Chinese were selling organs of executed prisoners. last year dateline went undercover and arranged a buy for a kidney from the Chinese organ broker. Somebody also smuggled out a home video of the executions. The prisoners are injected with anti-coagulants which keeps the blood from clotting in the organs. They are forced to kneel. A doctor directs the guard to the exact point in the neck to shoot (the gun is put right up to the guy). The guy falls forward after being shot, but it is not at all clear he is dead. The shot may simply cut the spinal cord. Keeping the heart beating after the shot would keep the organs fresh longer. The prisoner is then hauled off quickly and hacked up for parts. Again, he may or may not actually be dead (?) when the carving begins. You can be real sure they don't waste any money on anesthetic.

That is one country I wouldn't mind seeing disappeer from the face of the Earth. These are the same people who in recent decades decreed that families could only have one child and "enforced" the law with state mandated abortions... on babies that were days from delivery.. by injecting poison into them and delivering them dead.

Great place to live.

It has been reported in several venues that the PRC utilizes its "death row" convicts as organ donors, with various degrees of cruelty involved.

And I read a list of the "crimes" people there were executed for. One I remember clearly was:

hooliganism

Seriously. They execute people just for being a punk. If they did that here, most of the young kids would never see adulthood!
