Years ago when I was a teen I decided to hold the barrel of my Dad’s S&W K22 when trying on a bet to hit a penny at about 30 yards.
When I was about 17, I rested my first revolver's barrel (a High Standard "Sentinel") across my bare forearm - ONCE! I'd seen a television cowboy do it that way, and his revolver didn't put a "V" shaped burn on his forearm. o_O

Years ago when I was a teen I decided to hold the barrel of my Dad’s S&W K22 when trying on a bet to hit a penny at about 30 yards. I don’t recall the ammo but I do recall it was hotter than our usual fare of Wildcats and Yellow Jackets.
My Dad said “Don’t hold it like that. Get your hand behind the face if that cylinder. It’ll burn you.”
I didn’t listen and fired.
He was right. It burned me. :)
I wasn’t badly burned but it stung and it sure taught me not to do that again. My wrist had a nice red patch for a day. I am glad it was only a .22 and not a larger cartridge.
Which is probably why we see so few revolver rifles.

That flash from the cylinder gap is also why it is important to load black powder revolvolators properly since it is known that the flash from the cylinder that is being fired can creep into the other chambers and set them off as well. In addition, the percussion caps will tend to pop out toward the rear.

You will note the cutout in the frame of the 1858 Remington revolver in front of the other chambers to minimize the danger from this effect, which could do damage to the gun, your hand, and your horse.

I so have the hots for that Remington.....but it seems that caps are harder to find over primers.

Back when this crazy started I thought......well you know you always wanted to get into that black and smoky stuff seems like a good time. After putting everything in the cart I went to look for caps.....none to be found.....ANYWHERE.

Well crap.

They're expensive and really awkward to insert into the revolver, but you could get a .45 Colt adapter cylinder. I never fired mine with Black Powder, but the adapter cylinder will allow you to at least shoot it.
