i have a howa model 1500, and was looking at bell and carlson stocks. i already had a thread on this, but the stock ended up just being a bell and carlson sporter type, the question is, can you have a standard barrel in a heavy barrel stock, just with more floating space?

Yes, it will just have more space around the barrel. Just order a stock made for a standard barrel. I'd also pass on B&C and find a better stock

I have two different B & C stocks, both on savages and been happy with them overall.

On my model 12 (.223)my accuracy increased with the full metal bedding block.
On my model 10 (.308)it was more comfort from the recoil pad. I went from having a sore shoulder to no pain.

I know there are better stocks but not at the same price point.

IMHO respectfully

+1 to that^^^^^ The recoil on my Savage 10FP .308, was cut in half with the B&C Tactical Medalist, was like majic!:D

I did have to finish inletting the stock, to float the tang, but was minor.

Bell and Carlson can make a good stock, in fact I believe that is what my new Cooper M52 is wearing. The key is realizing that Bell and Carlson has several different grades of stocks, and they are not all created equal. The one on my rifle is laid up fiberglass, epoxy, etc and has a full length aluminum bedding block. Plus Cooper even went so far as to glass bed the barrel around the chamber as well.

I was very happy with both my B&C stocks. One on a Savage Model 111 in 300 win.mag and one on a Mauser 98 sporter in .280 Remmy.

great, will they sell me a stock that has a sniper style raised cheek and forend for a regular barrel?
i dont care about the extra space, more floating space if you ask me.

I love my B&C Medalist. For having a stock that is drop in ready its great. When my skillset gets to the point that a $400 stock that needs a smith to bed and finish inletting my bottom metal I'll address it then.

ok, i've decided on the bell. now i just need the money!
but it shouldnt take too long at 40 dollars a week.
40 80 120 160 200 240
ok... i guess i'll do somthing to get the money faster....

The B & C stock with the aluminum bedding block is the way to go. I purchased one for my old Remington 700 and it actually cut my three shot groups in half. It was if I glass bedded the action and free floated the barrel. Anybody want to buy a used ugly Remington 700 stock? :)
