Just ordered one with black/green micarta handles, plain D2 blade. 3.36" blade, 8.20" open. Can't wait 'til it gets here!

Love them Benchmades!

Any time someone asks what sub 100 dollar knife to get, I always recommend the BM15020 among a few others. I've found the edge is decieving. It looks very thin, but can really slice. The D2 has held up fine, no rusting, and still shiny.

Scales are really the beautiful part of the knife. The G10 is just superb, and the pattern rib cage doesn't grip your pocket as much as you'd think. Love the arrow clip also, has no snag when removing from your pocket.

Great knife, hope you enjoy your's.

I know I'd seen it recommended before - maybe it was you! I liked the wood handles too but the grippier micarta seems the way to go. Just seems like a heck of a knife.

Did you get it yet Valkman? If not, here are a few pics to tide you over till then:

My Mini Bone Collector (MBC) with Green handles has become my favorite folder. I'm sure you'll really like it. Just some quick thoughts after about 2 months of EDC with it. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts once you've played with it:

PROS:

• Blade thickness - this has the thickest blade I've ever seen on a small folder. It's good and beefy!
• Handles - The micarta handles are fantastic. Lots of texture, they fill the hand very well, and they look so dang cool. Layered with black, they look very deep and 3 dimensional. And the grooves are deep and well placed. The handle has also been rounded and contoured in all the right places. Just a great design and execution.
• Lockup - Hey, it's an Axis lock...what do you expect?
• Blade shape - Modified sheepsfoot, I believe? Anyway, it's unique and looks good. It has good balance and a nice long cutting surface compared to the overall blade length.

SLIGHTLY LESS PRO:

• Axis buttons are pretty deeply recessed inside the channel - my Mini Griptilian Axis buttons stick out pretty sharply and are much easier to manipulate (not to mention they have about half the travel distance of the MBC). The MBC takes a much more concentrated effort to slide the Axis buttons back and forth. Your thumb and forefinger kind of grind along the rough micarta as you manipulate the lock. This is probably mostly due to the thickness of the scales.
• Thumb hole - without gloves, it works ok. With gloves, well, it's a little small for my liking. It is what is is, due to the size and shape of the blade and the handle, but it's not nearly as fast and/or instinctive for me as a pair of good old thumb studs. The MBC is definitely not "flickable" with your thumbnail (unless you have a thumb the size of a pencil).
• Pivot screw - Mine wouldn't stay put. I'd adjust it down until there was no side-to-side blade play whatsoever, then about 5 or 6 quick flicks open and closed, and the blade would wobble. I fixed it with a couple of wraps of teflon tape, and it's been good-to-go ever since.
• Where's the jimp? - I wish there was more pronounced jimping on the thumb ramp. Just personal preference for an "outdoor" knife to be used in all weather conditions.

I've only cut wood, paper, packing tape, and cardboard with it so far. But I have no doubt it would hold up very well to the kind of cutting it was designed for - which I'm assuming is skinning and general field/camp duties.

Congratulations on a great Benchmade, and let us know what you think when it arrives.

Any update Valkman? Has the Benchmade MBC arrived yet? I've spent a lot of time handling mine over the last week, and I'm anxious to hear your early thoughts.

Knife Center never sent it and I canceled the order, although the wife is supposed to re-order it when it's back in stock.

I know - I can't wait to handle it!

Good call John, I ordered it today from Knife Works. At first they wanted $131 which was awful high but then they gave me a code that knocked the price down to $95, which was cheaper than Knife Center and it appears to be in stock. This is a hrd knife to find!

I got it a couple of hours ago - what a sweet knife! The AXIS lock works perfectly and I love the look of the green/black G10. Pics later!

As promised:

I can't believe how much beefier this knife is than my Griptilian, and they both cost about the same! I've seen video of the Grip being abused and surviving it but for hard use I'd start with the Bone Collector.

I liked doing business with them, and they ship fast. After ordering I realized I'd ordered the combo edge so I called and I think I got the owner. He was real nice and switched it right before they boxed it up.

rbernie, yes you can use the Axis lock one handed.

On knives with lighter blades, grasp the body of the knife against the palm with pinky and ring fingers, pull back on the lock bar with thumb and middle finger, and push down on blade with pointer finger.

On knives with heavier blades like the Bone Collector and Griptiliain one can pull back on the lock bar with thumb and pointer finger, and the blade will drop free of the lock.

The lock mechanism provides a bias toward closure when the knife is fully or almost fully closed. However, one can still open the knife one handed because on opening the blade simply cams the lock bar back until the knife is fully opened.

It wasn't as sharp as I'd expect from Benchmade so I put it in the Wicked Edge and sharpened it from 100 grit to 1600 grit and then stropped - it's like a laser now!

I had the same issue. Sent back to resharpen, had them laser engrave while it was there.
