I have been looking at benchmade, and was wondering if anyone has had a bad experience with a benchmade knife of any kind. Thanks

No.

I have 5, dating back to when they first started as a company.
And have horse traded several others away over the years.

They have been most excellent for the money.

And a very good company to deal with if there is ever a problem.

Their Axis Lock is perhaps the best in the business, IMO.

I've got a couple. Nice knives. No problems at all. My only minor complaints are that their plastic/polymer models tend to feel hollow or cheap, and maybe they are kind of high priced. I feel that I get more for my dollar with Spyderco.

I'm sure you'd find someone that did if you hit one of the dedicated knife forums, but I've never had a problem with any I've had.

I'm not a big knife guy but I do like my Benchmades. The Axis lock is the best, IMO, one-handed open and close, super fast and strong.

A few of mine. (Blue Box)

Agreed. I got rid of my 530 for just that reason. Didn't like the feel of it.

I do like my H&K Axis 14715, made by Benchmade. Very solid knife. G10 scales, D2 steel, Axis lock, all for $105.

That one is a bargain, just doesn't say Benchmade on it.

As a follow-up.

The only problem I ever had with a Benchmade was a broken torsion spring in an auto I bought new at a Kansas gunshow.
It broke a few days after I bought it while playing with it watching TV.

Federal law made it impossible for me to send it back to them to repair.
(They couldn't legally send an auto knife back to me.)

And they couldn't legally send me the spring for it.

But low and behold, a plain brown envelop with no return address showed up in the mail 4 days later.

Inside were 4 extra springs, and enough screws to build anther knife!!

That's what I call good customer service!!

Benchmade has a great military/police pro pricing program. On top of that you can order one knife a year at an even steeper discount with the NRA coupon code. This year I could only manage to wait two weeks before blowing my code on a new knife.

I'm a big fan of the Axis lock. Never had trouble with a Benchmade knife.

Some of their folding knives feel sort of insubstantial and "cheap" due to the very lightweight handles. I still don't really care for the way that feels, but I no longer worry about their durability after watching someone on Youtube intentionally try to tear one up.

I tried to find the video again but failed. They did finally manage to ruin the handle, but after seeing how hard they worked to achieve that goal, it's hard to imagine someone doing it with honest usage.

You guys are right, the 530 does have a very thin plastic handle. That is the price you pay to get a knife that only weighs 1.88oz. It is VERY light. You should have bought the 531 which is the same knife with G10 scales. A bit heavier but 2.1oz is still very light.

I've had a few, still have a couple. My Barrage Axis lock is one of the best folders I've ever owned. I've had two autos, both government issue, and a fixed blade which I foolishly traded away.

They are expensive, but generally they are worth the price.

I keep a full sized Ascent (long discontinued) on my person during waking hours, a brand new Griptilian in protectant and sleeved to prevent the slightest corrosion (I work in saltwater daily...) with lanyard attached as a survival knife on my skiff - and one extra smaller sized Ascent as a spare. They're not the only folding blades for me - but the ones I've had have been outstanding... The one time I had an issue (needed the small screws to re-secure a pocket clip) - I was sent 20 of them by the company -no charge... Can't beat that.

I have had several with no issues. Currently have a 940-1 Osborne, and a Griptillian. Excellent knives.

I have several fixed blades, 4 or 5 folders..including a couple autos. They have all given me excellent service. If I were to pick out one point I would like different with them, it would be the fixed blades sheaths. I think they could make a more serviceable sheath in leather or kydex.

I have a bunch and they are the only knives I buy anymore. The Axis lock is the best around and I trust my fingers to it. I have managed to destroy a D2 blade but I was using it to pry bullets out of a post. It's obviously the wrong tool for the job. I won't buy another blade in N680. I've babied that one and it still has nicks in it. It doesn't hold an edge very long either. These are properties of the steel and not a Benchmade issue.

The only problem I ever had with a Benchmade was a Mel Pardue auto.

Apparently I left it clipped to a pair of jeans. Went through the wash. I found it when the alarm went off in the dryer. The alarm sounds just like banging on an empty oil drum with a hammer.

It completely disassembled itself. Found all the pieces. Lint trap. Vent hose. Rolling around. Used a magnet on a stick to retrieve all the screws.

Absolutely no damage. A set of tools and blue Locktite. Good as new.

I like the grip of the rounded handle profile of most folder models.
Flat sided knives feel like a tongue depressor in my hand.
:)

Great knives. Have had several but most heavily used an AFCK and an Osborne, my present edc. Had to give up the AFCK to the TSA after forgetting to leave it home. Still looking to buy a used one in good shape.
You won't go wrong with a benchmade....there the first ones I look at at gun and knife shows.

I like Spyderco, but have recently liked a Griptilian as my supervisor has one and it's a great knife and has had no problems with it. I'm sold and going to buy one soon.
