I've heard the Beneli wont cycle with bird shot is this true? not that I'd use it for home defense but was curious about training purposes. Thanks

Lighter loads may not completely cycle, going on what I hear. Use at least 1 1/8 oz 3 dr loads and run it wet with oil.

My M1 90 had serious problems with light target loads and even some with heavy target . I modified mine so heavy always works and only a rare problem with light target. There is a light spring available from Brownells that will cure the problem.......MIne is an older one and I think they may have made some changes.

My stock M1 shoots bird shot just fime. I have not tried the light clay loads, but basic #8 fields loads work well in mine.

My M1 will cycle the Winchester AA extra-lite 1-oz loads in #8 with no problems whatsoever - has done so straight out of the box. Use a light coat of Breakfree CLP for lube.

The SBE tends to be a little more picky (or so I have observed), which is probably the trade-off for being able to use the 3.5" roman candles.

I’ve got a SBE that I use for ducks/geese and a M1S90 for “just in case”.

After breaking both in per the Benelli instructions, both of mine cycle the basic Wal-Mart cheapie, or light skeet loads fine. I’ve never had a problem with any 1 1/8th loads. Now after a couple “K”, the M1S90 shoots 1 oz 2 ¾ dram fine. Both digest my 16-yard trap/skeet reloads 2 3/4 Dram 1 1/8oz.

I lube my rails generously with Rem-Oil, and I clean/lube my recoil springs at least annually or whenever the SBE goes for a swim (whichever comes first). I also keep the M1S90 pretty trim with just an Insight M3X light on it.

my m1

my m1 has never choked on anything.

at said, what is the proper break in procedure?

and is breakfree clp good enough lubrication? i suppose i should use more... but where do i put the oil?

i've shot about 125 roudns through my m1 with no problems so far. had it for about 3 month.

silverlance,

One of Benelli’s gunsmiths told me to run 5 boxes of max dram loads through before trying any light stuff. I think the owner’s manuals call for a European equivalent.

I used to use CLP-Breakfree, but switched to Rem Oil for the colder temps with the SBE. CLP is still good stuff, and I use it on everything else.
