I've been researching rifles for some time now and wonder if any of the members have first hand experience with the Benelli R 1 rifle? I am considering the .270 WSM and the .300 WSM. How would you rate its dependability? Does the Comfortech System have a significant effect on recoil (especially the .300)?

Thanks for your input.

My buddy's got an R1 in .300WinMag, or .300WSM with the ComforTech stock. I'm not sure which one it is, or if there is a big recoil difference between them. I've shot it a few times and I can honestly say the stock helps out a great deal. It's still a bruiser, and I'm not sure if the Benelli claims of it reducing felt recoil by 60%(or whatever their number is), but it's noticeably less than a standard wooden stock. I shot two mags of three rounds a piece succesively, while standing, and it didn't tear my arm off.

I haven't seen a published test of one yet that shot better then 3 - 4 MOA groups.

One the otherhand, I have seen more then one Browning BAR that would shoot very near 1 MOA.

Just cleaned & sighted in my dentists 7mm Mag BAR last year for him and got several 100 yard groups under an inch with Remington factory loads.

Very soft recoil too for a 7mm Mag.

I've heard that the BAR is pretty good but often inconsistant from gun to gun. Maybe because of high production? Your thoughts?

My brother in law and his dad both shoot BARs in 7mm mag and they flat shoot. both are at or under 1moa. Very nice low recoiling guns

No experience, but I've looked into the R1. I'm sure it's a great gun, but if I'm going rifle I'm going bolt. Less problems, more durable, and always more accurate due to the stiffness of a bolt. I'll take a simple R700 over the R1 any day. A shotgun on the other hand...one word...best!
