I remember reading an article or seeing a link on how to do a switch-to-slug drill on the Benelli. But of course now that I have one I can't find it.

Seems like the Benelli would be easy to switch to slug, except for having to hold the bolt back while loading the slug into the chamber.

Or is there a better procedure?

Two methods:

1) Directly into the chamber after pulling the bolt handle to the rear to eject the chambered round. First obtain and place slug properly in the support hand, cradled between the small finger at the base of the round and the pointer finger at the crimp. You can now run the bolt back with the blade of the support hand while keeping the weapon mounted and, as soon as the chambered round is ejected, drop the slug in; or, release the master hand from the firing grip and shift it to the bolt handle to pull it to the rear as the support hand, with the round indexed, holds the weapon by the fore end. Pull the bolt back and hold it open while keeping the weapon mounted. Bring the support hand back to the ejection port and feed the slug into the chamber.

2) Much simpler but requires the mag tube to be down loaded by one. Insert the slug into the mag tube, hit the cartridge drop lever, cycle the bolt.
