The ONLY WAY to have any control over ammo is to load it yourself. The factory is not shooting the ammo you buy - only selling it. And the QC I have seen with factory ammo over the last ten years is terrible. I have seen boxes of factory loads from Winchester with primers loaded upside down, smashed into the primer pocket sideways and cases with no flash hole in them. If they will do that do you really think they are carefully controlling or checking the powder charges? I have yet to see one single ammo manufacturer that will even guarantee that the rounds they sell you will even fire.

Fitting an oversized EGW stop will help the extractor form "clocking", or twisting, and help consistent ejection as well. I think you can get the oversized FPS in either radius, but I am not sure without looking again. Playing with springs can mess stuff up. Everything adds up, main spring, recoil spring, radius of FPS. All things which take energy to overcome.
Walkalong, This is a new Ruger SR1911 .The current fire pin stop is rounded on the bottom from the factory , so if I purchase an EGW one and have a Smith fit it will he have to bevel at the right angle or does he just have to fit it. In your opinion if I change out the FPS it will be and improvement overall to the SR1911 ??

Depending on where you get the FP stop it can have a square edge. If I recall the John Harrison's come pre radius (small), all you need to do is fit it to your slide. The last EGW one I got was a square edge, preferred. You just take a file and start rounding the sharp edge off. The sharper it is the more force it takes to start the slide moving. Fit to slide is critical to keep the ejector from clocking. A clocking ejector causes a lot of ejection problems. It also need to be flush with the disco rail. As far as improvement it depends on how your current one is fitted. With the small radius use the std 16# recoil spring. The hammer spring is the one that has the most impact on resisting the slide movement. Stronger the spring, more the resistance. In my BE 1911 gun I run a 19# hammer spring for target loads. If I was going to shoot full power loads a 23# spring ( or greater) could be used. But you may find that the 19# is all that is needed.

If the Ruger FPS is a nice tight slip fit, is the right length (top to bottom), and the radius is nicely done, and the extractor fits the FPS well, you won't see improvement in extraction. If all is well with the FPS, and extraction is bad, it could be the tension or the shape of the tip. All the radius change does is slow the slide down. If the FPS passes the test and extraction is bad a top grade replacement can improve things.

Thanks Blue68f100, I will probably go with the John Harrison one , Now I am on my search to find a competent gunsmith , I am a member of The Arkansas River Valley Gun Club, I will call some members for referal's....I once owned a Green 54 f100 ..X wife took it...

Thanks Walkalong I am on a search for a competent gunsmith , I am sure there a few around ,with all the info I got here I will at least know what I need to ask the gunsmith..I try never go to a gunfight with a knife...

If you're feeling froggy, the oversized FPS is easy to fit. get the Harrison Custom with the bevel already done and go slow. If you're feeling froggy that is. :)

I agree! I fitted one on my son's sr1911 and the result was better recoil impulse (less sharp) and a change in ejection angle. I used a 16lb recoil spring and a 23 lb hammer spring and an EGW FPS. It's really easy to put a touch of bevel on the stop--doesn't take much.
Cases now eject at nearly a 90° angle to the side of the slide and fall 4-5 feet away. Wilson Combat also makes an oversized FPS that comes with a very small radius if that's what you prefer. I used one on a RIA 4" with good success.

All the above assumes a properly fit and contoured extractor.

Walkalong, I do feel Froggy from time to time , I am going to go for it . Thanks everyone ...I will post results when completed..
