Bent Bolt for Mosin?

Not sure how that no-weld, threaded solution will hold up over time?

Learn to live with the original straight bolt handle.

The hammered down bolt handle really sucks, you actually have more leverage with a straight bolt handle.
If you think you have to do this to clear a scope, there are other ways of scoping a Mosin that can be reversed without permanent alterations needed. If you are trying to recreate a PU or PE sniper on a non sniper or ex sniper rifle, don't.

They have drill less scope mounts on ebay. I had one on mine for awhile. With a scout scope. It mounts where the rear sight is.

Yes the long eye relief scopes and a mount that uses the back site. The one I have works well.

I would say if you want a "sniper" I agree with above, just don't. There are enough "fakes" out there you should find one for a tick more then a "normal" mosin of like condition.

In days of old SOG sold them and I bought one for right at $300 IIRC. I would never try to pass it off as something that it is not, and that makes all the difference. If you own it own it for what it is. It really is fun to play enemy at the gates.

20230902_150102.jpg ive had mosins with the scout scope set up using the original rear sight base and they worked well. The one i have now the guy i got it from in a trade worked for boeing makin airplane parts. He machined a downward bolt handle then machined the bolt to accept it and bolted together. And he had modified cantilever scope mount and its professionally drilled and tapped to receiver. So there is options depending on just how bad you want a more traditional scope set up and have to have downward bolt handle to accommodate it. It does make loading more trouble with the set up on mine cause you cant use stripper clips have to drop a bullet in and push it down for each round. Its not to much trouble but still isnt as nice as just stuffing 5 rounds down into mag quick. Ive owned and been shooting the mosin in pic for 6 years now and havent had first bit of trouble from it.

Yes, I was thinking of mounting a scope and that won’t work with the original T-bolt. The Russians themselves used a bent bolt for their Mosins with scopes.

If done properly, and it is within the skill set of a DIYer, the screw on bolt handle modification is just fine.

Like so many other old wives tales and superstitions, it got its reputation from the first moron that did the job badly and not the millions of subsequent successes.

That makes sense. I would imagine that snipers are less concerned with rate-of-fire.

Not saying that what you have is bad but the reason why the Soviets abandoned the cantilever mount was that under combat conditions theirs didn't hold zero. Hence they went to the side mount for their 4X PEM scope.
