Hi guys, my Mark III hunter bolt is not functioning properly. The bolt when released does not go into battery. I noticed that the recoil rod fork looks bent back. I seem to remember the forks at a more 90 degree angle. Any idea if its bent, could this keep the bolt from having enough momentum to go completely into battery.

It's backward in the pictures, but how is the recoil spring and guide set into the bolt? It should be with the "U" shaped piece to the rear, with the arms of the "U" going around the bolt stop pin (the part that is attached to the mainspring housing). Is it possible that someone tried to put the recoil spring and and guide in backward?

The circled part has to sit low in the bolt. The spring should have a slight curve , downward in the middle ,where the arrow is. This keeps the spring from rubbing on the top of the Barrel/Receiver Assembly. 20171204_004517.jpg

The only time I see these (U end) bending and breaking is when one use the Hyper Velocity ammo which Ruger does not recommend with the Mk's. A new spring may be stiffer for std ammo for a few boxes. Shooting a box of the hyper will help it settle down. But a continued diet of these damages the RS over time.
