Seems like these two have a reputation of being pretty "fat" in the grip. Which is fatter, which is more comfortable for a small handed guy like myself, and how are the pointing characteristics compared to each other. Any other comparisons or comments on these two guns would also be appreciated.

Both guns have been accused of having a fat grip. As a female shooter, I don't see it. I can take a Beretta or Glock in any size. Both are great guns so it's hard to choose. It's really a matter of which are you most comfortable using. Personally, I'd prefer the Beretta for the weight to help with recoil. It's just as accurate and unlike the Glock, has a manual safety which I always think is a plus. My choice of Glocks is for the moment limited to the 9mm. You might want to ask on www.berettaforum.net -- There's a lot of folks at Beretta Fourm who love their Glocks and can probably offer a more complete response.

My Cougar 8045 is sitting next to me on the desk as we speak. "Fat"? Hmmm, I suppose thats sort of subjective. I'm not a huge person and I think the Beretta .45 fits like a glove. Actually, my 15 year old son, who is pretty small for his age, prefers the Cougar to our other (smaller gripped) handguns.

Go handle one. Chances are you'll either love it or hate it. I am, however, with Mastro on this one. Try the Cougar, you'll like it. I happen to know that Mastro is not a big girl... And she loves her Berettas! :D

Thank you for the input everyone. I actaully did handle a cougar today at the gunstore and really did like the way it felt in my hands. Pointed well, good balance, and a very attractive gun. I was able to compare it side by side with a G30, and for me at least, both don't seem like a good choice for what I am looking for. I do think it might be "too thick" for my "summer wear" CCW purposes.

Got to hold a G36 and Colt Defender as well and felt these two might be what I'm really looking for as far as size. Only problem is that both seem to have mixed reviews on reliability. G36's seem to be thought of as the "least realiable" of the Glocks and especially the mini-glocks. Compact 1911's seem to be thought of as the least reliable of the 1911's. Of course there are countless success stories of both but I think the majority of reviews seem to support my concern.

I guess my search will go on......

I love my 8045.

It is stockier than a 1911 but not as thick as my Ruger 90.

Don't know about a G30, but I don't think that the 8045 handles very well and is very accurate. Super easy to field strip and I love the rotating bolt! ! !

Here's a thought...why not try the Beretta compact type M? It's slender and is a great carry gun. A lot of folks that do carry rate this one highly -- as with the Glock 26, but again, it may be too fat for you. I don't recall anyone that's ever said that about the compact M....now that I'm getting my permit upgrade so I can carry, I'm glad I have two. :D
