Beretta 85FS vs. CZ 83 / 82

My Beretta 84 is a fantastic pistol. I like my PPK/S, but the 84 is much more reliable when fed a diet of horrible ammo, some of which is a little underpowered. The open-top design really does make a difference IMHO.

Some day I'd like to have a CZ but I do read occasional complaints about CZ quality. Never a bad word about the Beretta 380's.

So what are you guys going to do if 9x18 ammo dries up? It is possible that someday it might not be imported any more, and their are few domestic brands/choices.

If it's so great, why aren't American gun manufacturers making any 9x18 pistols?

Imported 9x18 ammo will unlikely dry up anytime soon. Winchester, Federal, CCI, Sellier & Bellot, Fiocchi, Prvi (Wolf), Brown Bear, & Hornady all produce the cartridge. If it ever comes to an import ban on 9x18 ammo, then we've got bigger problems than not having 9x18 ammo. Also, it is all the more reason to diversify your firearms and cartridges.

Ok, finally got to shoot the Beretta last night--it was a good experience. The particular pistol I shot functioned perfectly (range ammo-FMJ) and was quite as accurate as I could be. Felt good even in my large hand. I didn't have any trouble with the slide hitting my fingers or anything; one of my reasons for looking at the Beretta .380 in the first place was its relatively large grip. I put 150 rounds through it and by the end was feeling really comfortable. I have not carried a semi before. Not sure whether I will carry this pistol much or not yet, but I am starting to appreciate the concept of the decocker. Still forming an opinion.

I think there may be a range with a CZ83 down by where I work--I'm going to check next week. When I buy a pistol I'll let you all know and of course thank you for your help, as I already do.

Thanks, Jeff
