CZ-82 vs. CZ-83

I've heard somewhere that these are different pistols and the CZ-83 has a better safety system to prevent accidental discharge.

I also heard from a forum member that they are exactly the same pistol in 9x18.

Since I'm getting conflicting info and am not a CZ expert, I'd like some additional input from the CZophiles. I'm a budding CZophile, but not yet that knowledgable.

Apparently SOG sells CZ-82s at low prices, but are they really the same pistol as a CZ-83. What, if any, are the differences?

The know the CZ-82 has polygonal rifling. So does the CZ-83 in 9x18. What else is same or different?

I'm under the impression that CZ-82s are going to be used army surplus and CZ-83s are available NIB. Is this correct?

Could someone please give me the website address for SOG?

I'd forgotten that the CZ-83 in 9x18 makarov also had polygonal rifling. The CZ-82 is apparently the same gun. If there is some differance in the safety system, I am unaware of it. The 82's will be used military surplus, without a box or holster. The reports I've seen on these show them as being well used, but in good condition.

There are some very slight differences in the pins used, with the 82 using solid pins with a flat retainer whereas the 83 uses roll pins. Other than that, I can think of no difference other than in markings, I detail stripped my 82 with the exploded diagram of an 83 as a guide.

I learned some more in CZ-83 forumn

Hi. I've been active in the CZ-83 club forumn lately.

They say the CZ-82 and CZ-83 are the same, except for two things:

The slide stop spring setup is different and the CZ-82 was only offered in matte black aka black poly.

The CZ-83 was available in a variety of nickel finishes, matte black, gloss blue, and satin blue. Officially the gloss blue and satin blue are both the same gloss blue. Unofficially CZs quality control is good for quality, but not consistency of finish colors. i.e. - one batch of "gloss" blue guns comes shiny, another comes out satin. The satin blued are probably a mistake that happened to a batch of "gloss" blued. I prefer the satin blue.

The blacks (painted) are all that was ever offered in CZ-82. Relatively few black CZ-83s were imported, so they're probably going to become collectors. Same with nickel 9x18.

Anyhow, that's all I've learned.

In conclusion, I'm NOT disagreeing with anything anyone else says in this discussion thread. I'm only repeating above what I was told by the CZ-83 Club and the CZ Czech website (not CZ-USA website).

Most likely what was said above in this thread is probably correct and what I learned at the CZ-83 club group and CZ Czech website are probably correct. I see nothing that disagrees.

It is my understanding that CZ-83 pistols have the square front trigger guard and tritium or high profile square notch sights as standard and CZ-82 pistols have rounded front trigger guards and plain low profile sights.

Round vs Square Trigger Guards

It is my understanding that CZ-83 pistols have the square front trigger guard and tritium or high profile square notch sights as standard and CZ-82 pistols have rounded front trigger guards and plain low profile sights.

The CZ-83 used to come with a round trigger guard, which I prefer. Later, it was updated to the squared, recurve trigger guard. I intend to switch mine to the round.

As far as I know, the CZ-82 was only available with the round trigger guard and the CZ-82 is no longer made. i.e. - you can buy used surplus ones, but not NIB.

I'm sure what I said about 83 is correct. Not certain about 82.

I pretty much lost all intrest in 9x18 guns when the ammo for it became more expensive than 9mm.
