Beretta 9000S 9mm

What is the consensous on the 9000s in 9mm? Handled one at the local Gander Mountain and I rather liked the grip despite its rather thick grip. The controls were rather stiff but worked. Price was $315 NIB. I don't hear much on these boards about this model, is it the red headed step child of the Beretta line?

It is the red headed step child. I have and carry one. I also have 2 other Beretta pistols and a Beretta shotgun.

Many Beretta fans did not like the look of the 9000 or the fact that it is polymer framed.

The 2 biggest issues people have with the gun are the grip and difficult controls. The grip is a very personal issue. It either fits you or it doesn't. It fits me.

The controls will ease up with use. My gun is much easier to rack after several hundred rounds and the safety moves easier as well. Note that the saftey will NOT engage with the hammer fully down. This is normal for the gun. The only way to get the hammer fully down is with a dry fire or FTF. In this case you still have a long dual action pull. The saftey will engage in half cock for a double action pull or fully cocked for "cocked and locked" carry and single action.

My gun is plenty accurate for a short barrel and has been completely reliable. Also,the magazine has a nifty pinky extension that stays in when carried and pops out as you grip the gun.

It was a little difficult finding holsters for the 9000, but with some trial and error at the gun shop I found a Bianchi OWB and a Galco IWB that fit well and hold securely.

Oh, and they have been discontinued in favor of the PX4 sub-compact. If you want a new 9000, now may be your last chance.

They grow on you. I originally thought that I made a mistake in buying but the more I carried it, the more I began to like it.

beretta forum has a lot of info on them also.

I like mine fine, great pistol for the money, plus it takes the 92 mags which I already have.

It's been discountinued so stuff for it might be hard to find. Other then that, if you like it go for it. I think it's a great pistol for the price.

Actually the grip is not out of line with other double stack 9mm guns, but the width of the slide and how far the ambi safety levers stick out makes it usually too thick for a compact carry gun. I've a thing for guns that are small for their caliber, so I had to have one for the collection. Price was nice too!

I like the fact it'll do cocked and locked and you can rack the slide with the hammer back and the safety on. Very good features IMHO.

Not often you can get a new Beretta for the price of a Taurus

With about 600 rounds down the pipe, my wife's still will not reliably cycle the action with 115's (three brands). Not a single failure with 147's (three brands). I am pretty sure it is just a stiff spring.

For the money, you cannot do better IMHO. I would aquire another if I found it NIB for $315, and it had two 12 round mags.

I just bought a 9000s(f) but in .40 S&W. I wonder if that is why mine cost $350 and NOT $315 as the 9mm price you quote? If your Gander Mountain was selling them (the .40's) for $315 please let me know where the store is. (maybe - since it is a chain store, I have a legitimate beef here) So far, I am thrilled with the gun. I like the size, looks, and function of the gun. The first outing was good with no FTF or FTE. The recoil was fun, not harsh! I have not checked accuracy yet.

I also was pleased with Gander's service and the extra year of in house warranty on the pistol!

I wasn't aware that the 9000 is discontinued. If I can find one (9mm) for the low $300s I'll get one. I don't see many people in this thread saying they aren't reliable. I kind of like the design as it is something different. Kind of like a Star Wars or Buck Rogers style gun. 10+1 in 9mm isn't bad either.

If you live in a free state, CDNN has the 12 round 9mm mags so you can have 12+1 carry.

I bought a 9mm on looks alone.Some hate it but I thinks it's the nicest looking piece of plastic weaponry made.I really haven't shot it much and have carried it all of twice but it's a very well made gun.Mine doesn't like WWB but it's not broken in yet by any means,I really do need to get it out and shoot it more.

I've told many people that even if they weren't looking for a compact but just want a good pistol on a budget to get one along with a couple of the grip extensions to use the plentiful and cheap 92 mags.It's much more comfy to shoot.The controls are stiff but since if I carried it,I'd do so with it decocked and safety off,that's a very minor concern.They do have minimal slide area to grip and while some people complain about the fat grip,it's not so much the width as that they made the sides longer front to back and the palm swell more pronounced than it needs to be.Had they just got some people with small to average sized hands to try the thing after it had been styled or at least made some concessions,Beretta could have had a real winner on their hands.

I really like my 9000 and it fits my hand very well, as a matter of fact I'm going to the range this morn to shoot it. As far as a holster, I bought Don Hume NO. 53-145 for my Taurus PT145PRO, and the 9000S fits the same holster like it was made for it.

My S&W 3913, 4040PD and 469 also fit as well

With an adapter, yes. They don't fit flush though.

Yup, 10 rounds was for the ban/ban states.

I recently also handled a 9000 S at Gander Mountain. The wife was there with me and after handling several different pistols it was the one she picked out. I carry a Glock 22 myself as a CC pistol, and she has a S&W 99. We had problems with her 99. Everytime she shot it would jam. Come to find out the rounds we were using were loaded too deep. Changed type and it fixed it.

Anyway.. I put the 9000S down on their 3-month payment plan. The gun was listed for 399 but when he rang it up it went for $350. Not a bad price for a Beretta I think. We'll find out soon how well it shoots. I'm pretty excited about it after reading the reviews here. I just want my wife to carry something reliable so if she needs it, it works. You'll be sure to hear more from me after we actually get the pistol.

Second outing with this pistol also successful. Got a nylon holster from Pyle Mountain. Very friendly folk. Now, I am going to store up some .40 S&W ammo. Oh, the accuracy at 20 yards was very acceptable - but I have still not done a serious job to determine the BEST that it (I) can do.

I have one and carry it from time to time. Well put together weapon. The exposed top of the barrel seems especially susceptible to rust - watch it carefully.

The trigger is a bit too creepy for my taste, but the rest of the weapon is nice enough that I can live with it for CCW ranges.
