How is the beretta 92
I'v never had any experience with these guns and wanted to no if they were worth having.
I was thinking about getting one over an xdm because of the price.

I've used the "M9" which is basically a 92F when I was in the military. They are decent pistols. Definitely not my favorite. I prefer something that is a little more "raw" (not DA/SA or safeties). I was going to get a 92F for nostalgia reasons, but instead I picked up a Taurus PT 917. Which is a very similar pistol. I think I prefer it over the Beretta's ergonomics.

I like the Beretta. It's a very safe gun, in everyday conditions it's very reliable, and there are lots of mags available, plus it's cheap to shoot. As VP stated, it's not my favorite, but it will do whatever I ask of it.

I have two, a special Y2K edition FS and a D model. Both are great guns and one person would be hard pressed to wear one out in a lifetime. They are cheap to shoot, magazines available everywhere and totally reliable.

I have a 92fs brigadier model. I love it. It's my HD gun. Like others have said the ammo is cheap.

i have a 92fs and absolutely love it. i have other guns too, but i tell ya, the beretta is one sexy beast. i have the 9mm so it's cheaper to shoot, plus it's a larger frame gun so it absorbs the recoil great. I haven't shot mine a lot, but, i have no regrets whatsoever spending the money on it...........

I've owned several over the years, including a few 96FSs and a couple of Elites. I've even carried them on duty. They are utterly reliable and a great field, house or range gun. HOWEVER, for a CCW they are TOO HEAVY, save for the Compact Type M models.

I own a Beretta 92FS and have nothing bad to say about it. Then again the only other pistol I have any experience with for comparison is my 1911. Mine's been flawless in 1,100 or so rounds of sunny range shooting. I have yet to have a M9 malfunction on me either but I normally make sure and oil those up first and that's all been sunny range shooting too. I'm sure someone on here has dropped one in the mud, filled it with sand, and so on and could offer an appraisal of it's ruggedness.

Like most of my guns, it's more accurate than I am. I CC it regularly with a IWB holster. The only complaints I've heard expressed by others about the M9 were about the 9mm round itself, other than the one complaint that it's oversized for a 9mm handgun. I'd recommend handling one and better yet shooting one before you buy.

I have both, and I've shot over a lot of ammo through the Beretta, less through my XDm (but still 20-30,000) They are both great guns that will outperform you unless you are a truly elite operator. Get the one that feels right in your hand.

They are excellent guns. Bought a used cop trade-in a few years ago that was built in the mid 90's. It has never, ever had a single issue even though it was pretty beat up and very filthy when I got it. Even runs perfect with a couple of cheapie $9 mags I bought last year.

Very accurate for me. Certainly not a carry gun, though.

I don't have enough, but I do have a bit of favoritism towards them :)

I also carry one daily...

I normally shoot a P226. For some reason, I rocked with the 92F the first time I tried it -- great pointability, fits well in the hand. It feels heavier and beefier than my 226 though, which isn't a good thing for a carry gun.

I just bought a used 92FS in Inox (stainless and aluminum alloy)

It shoots great. Reliability in these guns is awe-inspiring from stats. As tested by Beretta: average reliability is 17,500 rounds with no stoppages. The army supervised a test of 10 men shooting the 92. 168,000 rounds with no stoppage.

Low recoil, highly accurate - great gun.

It's a big one for CCW but not huge. I'm thin and 60+ and have no problem.

I also dealt with the M9 in the military. Not a bad gun at all. If it were me and my money, I'd go with the Beretta over the XDm. A lot of that is based on two things, familiarity with the weapon and the lower price tag. The XDm is still a very good weapon. Probably the better of the two if you plan to CCW. The standard sized 92FS is not what I would call an ideal carry gun.

I have a 92FS Inox (Stainless) and I am most accurate with it. Manageable recoil (for me) compared to other guns I've shot. As was mentioned in a previous post, you need to get what feels most comfortable to YOU and what YOU shoot accurately. It doesn't really matter to YOU that I shoot it accurately (unless, of course, I happen to have your back).

Personal plug: if you decide to go with the Beretta, I have one for sale on the forum: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=607545.

Totally different animal from the XD.

I love my 92fs. I don't carry it but would and probably will once I get around to getting a holster for it. It is very accurate and reliable and looks cool, a lot cooler than an XD IMHO.

IMHO the Beretta 92FS is one of the best 9mm pistols on the market. A little heavy for daily carry but a great home defense or range gun. Accurate, reliable and without a doubt the sexiest gun ever made! ;)

Ive shot my M9 over the past 4 years Ive been in the army and only had 1 stoppage "due to dirty ammo." Its easy and simple to break down, would have no problem owning a Beretta 92. Over all a good weapon.

Both great guns. Then again, a gun is never "great" if you don't like to practice with it. Try to find a range that rents them. It may be difficult to find a range with both.

If you really want to do yourself a favor, esp. if you can't rent them both on the same day, and remove doubt when comparing firearms, don't just go in and shoot both. Write a list of things that are important to you about what you're about to purchase. Give everything a rating scale and add up the ratings at the end. It will eliminate a lot of angst and buyer's remorse.
