To me, buying guns is like buying vegetables... What looks good and fresh today?

Well, this one did today! In the third pawn I stopped at - surfing small towns around my city. I believe this pistol has never been fired because the feed ramp is totally unmarked!

I love the engineering on this little beauty!

I have a couple of Beretta 950B's and one 950BS and I like them a lot. Slip one in your pocket and you are ready to go (yes, yes ... fully aware of the limitations of the .25 ACP cartridge).

It surprises me how accurate they can be at out to 10 or 15 yards. My shooting buddy can hit a one inch bullseye at 25 yards with his, but certainly not with every shot.

The ONLY problem I have ever encountered with mine is that I sometimes inadvertently push the 950BS safety 'on' while shooting if I am not careful. Just paying attention is about all it takes to avoid that.

One thing to note - they do not like being dry fired. With no slide lock-back on an empty magazine, it is a good idea to keep track of the rounds fired to avoid damage to the firing pin.

Your 950BS looks really nice - I bet you end up liking it a lot also.

Happy shooting!

These guns are favorites of mine. I had a .22 short version that I foolishly let go, and I still have one of the .25s.

Two things: first, spend a few bucks for a spare magazine release button, and file it down so it is recessed a bit in the grip. This will keep you from depressing it accidentally when the gun is fired. Second, remember that the gun does not have (or need) an extractor, so cycling the slide will not remove a loaded round from the chamber. Just tip up the barrel instead.

If I find one and have the extra money It comes home with me. They are the King of little 25 autos. The 950 and later model 20 (DA/SA) are the best. After those Beretta went on a lets make larger and add weight .Ruined a great pistol.

I had a .22 Short Minx and a 950BS .25.
Sold them both after I got my P-32 Kel-Tec
Would buy another Minx with the longer barrel if .22 Short ever becomes available again.

How does the shell get chunked out if it has no extractor? I understand blowback but how does it go up and out the side without some force other than blowback deflecting the empty?

WestKentucky: I fired my newly acquired 950BS in my shop and it would not extract the rounds, (.22 Short). Great! Broken extractor...... what the!??! Make that NO extractor! So I called Beretta for an explanation. I was told by Beretta that it doesn't need an extractor because the timing on the slide allows the casing to be blown backwards and then goes up and out. He asked if I was using low velocity rounds, which I was. He said before I send the pistol in, try shooting a few mags of .22 Short High Velocity in it and see if I still had extraction problems. That was years ago. I've never had a failure of any type in it from that day onward. Pretty clever system.

8 shots, 7 yards

Pretty happy with this little gem! Yes I accidentally flicked the safety on a couple of time in the 50 rounds I put through her today...

Grazed the web of my hand a couple of times with the slide... Meat sticking up too much!

WestKentucky, many of these little "tilt-breech" pistols lack both extractors and ejectors. As you figured, back-pressure from expanding gases drives the case (and slide along with it) rearward. The case then clips or rams part of the magazine feed lips, or, in some models, part of the next round in the magazine, to deflect it upward.

That's why they tend to go over (or into!) the shooter's head, instead of off to the right.

I still have mine, as well. One in .25 ACP, and one in .22 Short. They hide quite nicely, and are reliable and accurate. I also have a Model 21A in .25 ACP. It was looking lonely and dejected in a local pawn shop. At $100, it came home with me. The gun was "unreliable" according to the shop owner. Looking at it, I realized that it had a 950 magazine jammed into it. Called Beretta, ordered two proper mags, and it's been a lot of fun to shoot.

BLU A buddy told me the Minx was specifically designed to not eject standard velocity .22 shorts since they are commonly used when the gun is suppressed and the shooter has to manually extract after the shot maximizing the suppressor effectiveness.
I understand with no slide clacking back and forth that the suppressed gun is incredibly quiet and was popular as a hit man weapon.
Supposedly there were bullets with cavities filled with cyanide used in these guns.

I carry my "Jetfire" in 25 ACP but only in certain scenarios. Not much in the way of stopping power unless you are aiming at a BG's knees or groin. Mine will unload nine rounds as fast as I can pull the trigger.

I am so sorry, and apologize to all for posting the following news article, but I just cannot help myself after reading the above post -

Woman Stops Grizzly Attack With .25 Cal Pistol
3/8/13

This is a story of self control and marksmanship with an itsy bitsy shooter by a woman against a fierce predator. What is the smallest caliber you trust to protect yourself?

Try the Beretta Jetfire Model 950B in caliber .25 ACP!

"While hiking in Alberta Canada with my boy- friend we were surprised by a huge grizzly bear charging us from out of nowhere.

She must have been protecting her cubs because she was extremely aggressive. If I hadn't had my Beretta Jetfire 950B pistol with me I wouldn't be here today!

Just one shot to my boyfriend's knee cap was all it took; the bear got him and I was able to escape by just walking away at a brisk pace.

It's one of the best pistols in my collection!"

Onmilo.... I would tend to agree with that. It's certainly something to consider. I know some Israeli's use to take out some of the powder from their .22LR rounds saying it was quieter, much like a .22 Short and would have the same power as a .22 Short. I know most gun enthusiasts look down their nose at anything .22 but if those killed by a .22 could speak, huh?!

I'm like all those others who had one or more of the little Berettas and then foolishly sold or traded them away. I sort of made amends a couple of years ago, at least in as much as mouse guns go when I picked up a LNIB Baby Browning. Still on the lookout for a Beretta 950BS and an Astra Cub.

Beretta 85F

I am eyeballing a Beretta 85F at the LGS. I am soliciting any comments or info on compact Berettas in general , and the 85F specifically. I do not need any debate on the caliber , as I am deliberately looking for a 380 / 9mm Kurz to compliment my PPK. If anyone wishes to comment on price , the pistol in question looks very clean , blued with wood grips , and has the original box w/ 2nd mag. Asking is $475.

Thank you in advance , 'Ski

The little Beretta is a very fine 25acp pocket rocket. Love mine, but it's just a range toy, not a carry piece.
