I bought a 1970's Beretta 950 BS Jetfire .25 ACP and shot it today.

It worked very well but I had light primer strikes whenever I loaded a round directly into the tip up barrel. Each lightly struck round fired after a second blow. When I load a round by pulling back and releasing the slide its perfectly reliable.

Any idea what might be causing this issue? I really like this little gun, it's mostly going to be a range toy but I want it to work.

That is odd. I have / had a half dozen of these in both .25 and .22 short and have never experience that. In fact, the manual specifically says not to load by racking the slide. Are you FIRMLY pressing in the round when you load directly?

Well I didn't cram it in as hard as I could so maybe it's me. I just dropped the round in and gave it a light push with my thumb to make sure it was in the chamber all the way. I'll give the chamber and bore a good scrubbing and try again. And I didn't know that I wasn't supposed to chamber a round from the mag, isn't that pretty strange for them to recommend against that?

Heres a link to a copy of the manual, it lists two methods of loading the pistol(slide manipulation and tip up barrel), page 9.

I'm guessing the chamber was a little dirty, so the round needed an extra push to get seated all the way. Might be the ammo was just a little out of spec, too.

These are awesome little guns, best .25s in their class.

Only change I made to mine was to get a spare magazine release button, which I filed it down so that it did not protrude so far. That eliminated the only problem I ever had with the gun, which was my pinky sometimes mashing the button by mistake.
