I've seen Beretta 96G slides for sale online and at gun shows. The sellers state that you can put the .40S&W slides on a Beretta 92FS lower. My question is, while the slide fits, is it safe to shoot with the 92 lower? From what I understand, the lower is the same on both pistols when they come from the factory, the slide is the only difference. The Beretta website says differently, but I would assume this is for liability purposes as well as the fact that they want you to buy BOTH a 92 and a 96. What say y'all?

i ve gotten answers from sellers on ebay saying it is not a direct fit. an honest seller not trying to make a quick buck. im guessing it wouldnt fit, but let me know if it does cuz they only go for about 150-190 on ebay + shipping of course.

I own a beretta 96 and 92, the feed ramps are different, the .40 s&w requires a steeper angle, wont feed reliable. Also i wouldnt shoot .40 with an old locking block (pre 1989)

I purchased one from CDNN. I put about 200 rounds through it on my 92FS frame without a single problem. It came with one .40 cal magazine and I also used my 9mm mags without a hitch. I sold it due to lack of interest, not out of dissatisfaction with the conversion. BTW, through CDNN you get the whole slide/barrel assembly (slide, barrel, locking block, recoil spring, recoil rod, and all slide parts) for $150.

I was using a Centurion slide assembly on a full size frame, which works fine if you don't swap the recoil rods. Note that a full-size slide assembly will work on the Centurion frame, too, but there will be a 1/4" gap between the dust cover and the muzzle end of the slide.

I'll have to defer to Jkomp's current reference, but when I owned both a 92FS and a whole 96FS (Centurion) I did a side-by-side comparison and I didn't notice any difference in the frame, feed ramp, or magazine feed lips. There is a difference between 9mm and .40 cal followers, but like I said above this did not prove to be a problem.

I have been told that a 92 upper will feed reliably on a 96 frame, but not the other way around due to the different angle of the feed ramp.

Did you feed any .40 hollow points? I am looking at both of my guns now, and the feed ramp is different.

I believe I only fired FMJ, but the truncated cone design of the .40 might reduce any difference between JHP and FMJ.

I can't endorse the conversion for JHP but I would be surprised if any 180-grain loads failed to feed.

Now you've got me almost curious enough to order another kit and see.

I bought one of the 96G centurion models from CDNN a while back. It works perfectly on my full size 92FS frame. Though I only have a couple of hundred rounds through it in this configuration...I have had zero problems of any kind. I have fired FMJ in 165 grain and 180 grain. And I have fired JHP in 135 grain and 155 grain. Kind of funny to see people's reaction at the range which you switch top ends and start banging with different caliber ammo.
