I have a 391 w/ 28" barrel that I'd like to chop to 24". Any compelling reason to retain the Optima Choke + chokes or rethread to us Rem Chokes?

I do have a couple 870's with chokes so commonality is one plus. Another is that I have an inexpensive source for rethreading but Rem Chokes only.

I have no idea what the barrel inside diameter of an Optima Choke 391 barrel is at 24", but the Optima Choke system is for an overbore barrel. Rem Chokes are for standard bores.

Beretta's standard bore chokes are Mobil Chokes. Remington's overbore chokes are called Pro Bore. This doesn't mean that Beretta's idea of overbore, and Remington's, match, either.

I'd find out what the ID is at the 24" mark before considering this. It might or might not match the muzzle.

If it's like the muzzle, Rem Chokes probably won't work, since they're a different diameter.

Even if you're not dealing with overbore barrels (sometimes erroneously called "backbored" by manufacturers), not all manufacturers' bores are identical dimensions.

Ugh. Didn't think about that. This makes chopping the barrel even that much more complicated. I'm trying to avoid investing another $450 in a second barrel. Maybe I'll try and trade it.

It might be okay. I'd contact a good gunsmith who knows shotguns.

Or just call Briley and ask.
