I've been thinking about getting a Beretta APX in 9mm. Been doing some reading and checking out some videos. The other day I stopped in at the local gun store and asked my friend what could he get me one for. He told me that he had one on the shelf. It was priced just below $550. I really liked the pistol. It felt great in my hand, I liked the trigger and the sights weren't that bad.
I didn't take it home because I can get it for $490 with free shipping on a LEO deal. I may just order it next week.
Has anyone here fired one yet?

I haven't, but there are a lot of reviews over on the beretta forum that are positive. Been eyeballing them myself.

Just asking but why that gun? As opposed to say a M&P M2.0 or a Glock?

Good question. Answer, because I don't have one and the Remington RP9 is a POS. :D LOL.
I have a few polymer frame handguns. Glock 17 Gen4, Glock 22 , Glock 19 RTF, Glock 43, FN FNS9, Smith M&P 9 and M&P 45.
I really like the FNS9 and the M&Ps, but have been wanting to add another . I'm not a fan of the Springfield XD or the Beretta Px4 pistols. I did look at the H&K VP9, but it just didn't do it for me. But when it comes down to it, I just want one.

Gunny
Thanks for the answer
That may have been the best one I've seen here in a long time.
Want is a good reason and one people try to justify in so many ways without manning up like you did and just say, I want it and that's good enough!

Well yesterday I decided to pull the trigger. I could order it with the LEO discount, and with dealer transfer fee it would cost me $12 less then buying it from my local gun shop. So I stopped by the shop on my way home yesterday, but the Gun Gods were not smiling. I went behind the counter, got the key and took the pistol out of the display. ( I go to this shop a lot). I noticed there was a scratch on the left side of the slide. The owner said that it arrived that way. He told me that he couldn't sell it to me even if I wanted it because, his internet and phones were down and would not be working till the next day.
He did tell me that he would order me a new one for the same price he had offered me on the one he had in stock. I asked if he wanted me to pay up front for the gun. He said no and would call me as soon as it came in. So I guess I will have to wait a few more days.

Got the call today that my gun had arrived and picked it up on the way home.

I really like the way it fits my hand with the medium blackstrap.
I did see some reviews that said it was a little hard to field strip. I do have to agree that the take down lever is a little stiff, but it really wasn't that hard.
I also had my friend order a FDE frame.

Swapping out the frame was pretty easy.

I like the look if the black blackstrap on the FDE frame.
I'm going to bring it to work tomorrow and my friends and I are going to play with it. On the way home I'm going to stop by BASS PRO and put about 100 rounds through it at their range.

Congrats
I was going to say it was purely then I scrolled down and saw the FDE....
VERY NICE for lack of being able to find a descriptive term that I feel fits appropriately.
I fully agree the way you have it, it jumps out in a really good way.
Purdy, pretty, nice etc don't seem to fit.
So not sure what the term is so I guess ... Me Like ... sums it up adequately

I stopped off at Bass Pro after a long day at work and only shot 50 rounds at 10 and 15 yards. I changed out the backstrap from the med. to the small and shot tighter groups. I'm very happy with this gun.

How hard is it to swap the frames?
It's really not that hard. The takedown lever pin was a pain at first, very hard to push in. But after shooting it and taking it apart it has gotten much better. Once you have the slide off it's easy.
The rear pin on the frame is held in by a spring. You just lift the spring and push the pin out. Next you push the other pin in and lift out the fire control group.
It took me about ten minutes.

There are a few polymer pistols that I've been keeping my eye on. One is new to the market and a couple of them are pistols on my list that I haven't gotten around to for one reason or another.

H&K VP9
Walther PPQ Classic
CZ P-07

As soon as I read a review on the APX this one made the list.

It looks like the grip will fit the hand nicely. For love of God I do not understand why Glock keep molding those stupid finger grooves into their frames. The Beretta looks like nice alternative to Glock, S&W, H&K, CZ,.... I happen to own a Glock because l found like new one from 1995 with four magazine for low price so I bought it, but I could live with any plastic framed striker fired pistol out there.

Interesting, informative write-up, with clear, well-composed images. Thanks! :)

As I prepare to retire from LEO-ing, and will soon no longer be limited by PD policies, I am looking at various pistol systems that have not previously been on my radar. I have, actually, been able to carry almost anything during personal time, but have preferred to (mostly) use the same weapon systems on and off the clock, and no Beretta is on the current list of approved primary duty pistols. (I am not whining; my chief lets me carry duty pistols that include the 1911, Glocks, SIGs, and the S&W M&P, in 9mm, .40 Snap &Whip, and .45 ACP.)

Very nice Gunny!

The FDE frame with the two tone looks great.

And very nice pictures. I really need to stop taking pics with my phone and get a real camera. :)

EDIT: if you don't mind sharing, what's a extra frame cost?

My frame was from Quantico tactical and was $49 .

I love my APX . I didn't buy it because it was modular with a removable fire control unit , I bought it because all the reviews I saw and read showed that it was reliable. And mine eats reloads and new ammo like candy ! Plus it has very few parts compared to Beretta's other models. The fire-control unit is very simple too. And another thing I liked is that it didn't have a loaded chamber indicator . I hate the ones like Springfield Armory and Ruger has where there's a piece of metal sticking up. I am super happy with my APX. I use the small size grip insert on mine.
