The LGS has a Beretta Brigadier in .40. Asking $400. This was a range rental- round count unknown but likely several thousand. I am wondering about "life expectancy" on this model and caliber?

Also is there a guide for checking out a semi-auto?

Thanks

Here are some things to look for on a 92, which can apply to the 96 as well.

If you don't see anything wrong with it, the locking block and recoil spring might be the only items I would be tempted to change as a preventive step. They can be bought together in a single kit:

You can buy a 92 barrel and do a direct swap for a 9mm pistol without having to change the slide or magazines.

David Olhesso.....

If it's a DA/SA or TDA(traditional double action), Id buy it then ship it off to top Beretta pistolsmith; David Olhasso. Olhasso is a target shooter & widely known for the 92/96 pistols. He can replace the older parts or springs/sights/etc that may need replaced.
I owned a 96D that was great. It was a LE surplus(not issued) from a state agency(PA Fish Commission). The .40 had Robar NP3 & Trijicon 3 dot night sights. I used it for CC & home defense from 1997 to 1999. I owned another surplus Brigader .40 in 2007 but didn't have it very long.

After you get the pistol serviced by Olhasso you can get the Beretta treated with Metalife, Black T or Bearcoat.
