I bought a used Jetfire a few months ago, sight unseen, and discovered upon picking up the pistol that the safety was stuck in the "off" position. I tried to force it to move, and all I succeeded in doing was causing some microscopic spring to break and the safety lever to come flying out of the frame. Rats.
I then brought the pistol to a local gunsmith recommended independently by two gun shops. It took him almost a month to repair the safety, but when I picked up the pistol a few weeks ago, everything appeared to work perfectly - the safety clicked on and off crisply, and worked great. I brought the pistol to the range and put exactly 50 rounds through it. This evening, I was getting ready to clean some other pistols and took to playing with the Jetfire (it's just so cute). I discovered that the safety is stuck in the "off" position again.
I'm very frustrated, and am unsure what to do. I will bring it back to the smith and ask him to repair the pistol again (he better not try to charge me again), but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Did I get a lemon, or is this a problem with the design? Should a local smith be able to repair this, or would something like this have to be returned to Beretta?
Thanks,
-J
