Beretta M9A1 or Beretta 92FS ???

Ok folks need some help, which one would yall buy and what are the differences of the 2 models. The M9A1 is about a $100 more. Thanks for the help

Cheaper for one, better location of the safety lever and mine is more accurate than the range guns I use to qualify with.

None, one is Mil Spec with a rail the other is not. You in the military? I find most military guys including myself go out and buy a Beretta 92 or Taurus PT 92 as their first handgun.

I got an M9 (not a1) and as far as I know there isn't a difference between that and the 92. The original first series 92 had no polymer parts (trigger, guide rod, etc.) and a mag release on the bottom of the grip. It may not have had a decocker too, I can't remember. Held one when I was looking for a Beretta, and hated the placement of the mag release. I waited a week till the store got some M9s in.

As for the a1, it has a built in rail on the front. Unless you plan to attach a light or rail mounted laser, don't bother.
I'd take the 92fs.

Thanks raptorq7r13 that's what I was looking for. Also the m9 appears to have a duller finish than the 92 are there any finish diffrences?

Not that I know of. The slide on mine is a semi-glossy black, while the frame is a matte black/very dark gray. Might just be picture differences. Unless you go with the first-series I was talking about. Their finish may be a little different.

basically the same, so use the 100 bucks difference for the one box of ammo it will buy (just kidding, but not by much) - both the Berettas are GREAT and both have a service department that will actually serve you.....

Happily I have no idea what Beretta Customer service is like. Good to know they stand behind it.

The M9 is not an accuracy shooter. It's designed for reliable combat shooting, accurate enough for shooting a man sized target, but not for putting the same hole in a piece of paper at 50 yards.

I love my M9. It eats rocks. Never had it jam.

One big difference (I think) is that the M9 uses a "snowman" vertical sight system whereas the 92FS uses traditional 3-dot sights.

My M9's front post has a white dot painted on, and a white mark painted under the center of the rear sight. I'm not sure what a "snowman" sight is.

Not the M9s I use are these the same one's issued to the military?

As far as I know. US 9mm M9-Beretta is the marking on the slide.

Oh ,ok the ones I use are issued to me from the Air Force but they are old I was wondering if newer models issued to the military had the straight dot style sights.

Beretta customer service has been the bane of my existence since I started working in firearms wholesale. I will be on the phone with them for an hour just to get an RA number. They refuse to believe that anything they make will ever break. I know of several previous customers that all USED to be Beretta dealers. They are impossible to work with and you are better off just ignoring them and not worrying about the potential customers you will lose by not stocking them.

ON THE OTHER HAND

I do like the Beretta 92 pistol. All of the above ranting really is only specific to their shotguns because I have never had a problem with any of their handguns. It is possible their service is better for the pistols because of their govt contract and they have procedures in place for the 92 style pistols. I would opt for the FS since it is the same as the M9A1 without the hideous rail. And you can get these pistols anywhere even if the store is not a Beretta dealer.

The Beretta 92FS or M9 is a classic combat handgun.

Reliable, accurate and easy to maintain.

Ergonomics are excellent -- balance, pointability, felt recoil, are tops.

It's a brilliant design.

A great SHTF pistol because you can feed a Beretta any ammo and it'll eat it up.

In 9mm, I own BHP's, Sigs, M&P's, Walthers, etc but my Berettas are some of my favorites.

If you want a rail go with the M9A1, if not the 92 FS is very hard to beat.

My M9 has the dot the I style sights similar to Sig stock sights. My 92FS's have standard 3-dot style sights. I have seen M9's go both ways as far as sights, however I'm told the dot-I/Snowman sights are supposedly standard on all current contract M9 sidearms. Can't go wrong with a current production M9/92, I'm over 12,000rnds on one of mine and have yet to have any failures, I do follow standard preventive maint routines and only use factory magazines.

I've only seen M9s with with the 2-dot, not the 3-dot, setup.

One word of warning though. The grip is rather large, and I've talked to a lot of people who don't like it for that reason. I have no problem with it, and I imagine most men would do fine with it. It just might feel a little thick compared to most.
