Beretta mag problem. Can I fix it?

I recently started having frequent jams when shooting my Beretta 92FS Vertec. After some investigation I finally found the problem. All three of my Asian military mags have feed lips (is that the correct term?) that are SLIGHTLY wider than the original Beretta mags. The Beretta mags feed perfectly.

When the slide moves forward, the cartridges "pop-up" prematurely and hit the top of the chamber instead of toward the bottom of where the feed ramp is. I switched out the follower and the mag spring with the Beretta mag but it did not help.

My question is: Does anyone know how I can SLIGHTLY "form" these feed lips to fix the problem? I really can't afford genuine Beretta mags and I think these mags are fine for the range if I can "tighten" the feed lips a tiny bit.

Any ideas or is this hopeless?

Thanks!

good way to do it is use a dummy cartridge then slightly tap them in with a rosewood mallet or anther lite non marring hammer

Thanks for the reply, tc300mag1 !

Are you saying to strike the mag with the "dummy cartridge" inserted?:scrutiny:

I have been using snap caps to check this once I saw what was happening. I like using the "hi-caps" and can't afford Beretta "hi-caps" right now. (Maybe when the ban ends ?!)

I guess I should "tap" them in SLIGHTLY, then check function and tap a little more if necessary.

The funny thing is that the Asian Mags seemed to work for a while after I bought them. (I know... you get what you pay for.) I wonder if using the much stronger Wolf +10% mag springs eventually pushed them open a bit. Hmmm.

yes with the dummy cartridge inserted should have said that first time .. That way you dont bend the lips of the mag in to far .

Cant say on weather the +10 spring would make them open up wider or not. Try tapping it in though that should work if not someone else will have a idea

Those Asian mags worked GREAT when I got them. However, I noticed that their springs were nowhere near as strong as the ones in my factory Beretta mags.

Anyway, I ordered a 3-pak of +10% springs from Wolf and put them in. Still, the mags performed flawlessly. After not shooting for a while I then noticed occasional jams when loading (bullet always hit the top of the chamber and stuck there.) This happens on all 3 mags. (Beretta factory mags still work fine.)

I am thinking I should stop recommending that people immediately replace the mag springs in their Asian mags.... maybe they NEED to be weaker. I am beginning to suspect that the stonger springs eventually forced the lips apart slightly resulting in my problem.

If I get them fixed, I am going to put the original "weak" springs in 2 of them and then see what happens. The metal IS noticeably thinner on the Asians.
