I'll be damned, it seems this thing is actually available. I'm not sure if this goes in rifles or handguns, but I suppose I'll move it over to handguns since only NEOS owners are probably interested.

From Beretta's web site:
The Neos Carbine Kit is now available and started shipping to dealers at the end of 2009. At the present supplies are limited.

Consumers interested in purchasing one of these kits should inquire with their Beretta dealer. If the dealer does not have the kit in stock, the customer should request that the dealer order a kit for them. Please do not contact Beretta as we presently have no kits in stock, and many of the kits that have been shipped have gone to distributors and Beretta has no means of knowing which dealers received these kits. Your Beretta dealer can order the kit for you and once additional kits become available, the kit will be shipped to your dealer.

Regarding the optional accessories listed with the instruction sheet, presently these accessories are not available and may become available at a later date. As we obtain additional information regarding the future availability of these accessories, we will update this answer accordingly. If you wish to be notified when the accessories become available, please click the Notify Me by E-Mail When This Answer is Updated button at the bottom of this screen. You will need to have or establish an account in order to receive updates.

Finally, we have received inquiries regarding the legality of this kit in relation to converting your Neos pistol to a rifle and then back to a pistol again. Beretta carefully considered the legal implications of the carbine kit. When it is properly assembled with the 16" barrel the Neos becomes a rifle lawful for civilian purchase and possession.

We have attached the product specification sheet and will add the instruction sheet in the near future.

Bud's even lists them as in stock and there are a half dozen over on gunbroker.com

yes, they go on your pistol, to make it into a carbine basically; but the kit is over 200 bucks, not many peeps are gonna want to drop that kinda coin...

I saw one on GB for $224...that doesn't seem like a terribly bad price for 16" barrel, forend and butstock. Makes a pretty neat looking carbine...nice little travel kit!

Kinda nice how they leave out if it can be converted back

"When converted back, you've "made" a pistol from a rifle which has been illegal for 76 years. Thank you and buy Beretta!"

That's exactly what I was looking for, but of course failed to find.
You could always ship the converted gun to them and ask them to remove the carbine kit.:D

Our laws are so backwards and sideways it isn't even funny.

But the receiver is still registered as a pistol.

What happens if you buy an AR lower that someone had purchased and registered as a pistol, but you build a rifle. Later, you strip it for parts to build up something else and you resell the lower to someone who builds a pistol. Who broke the law?

...shot the sheriff?

...let the dogs out?

It's kinda funny on how honest most of us are. We won't buy something just in case.

It's one part honestly, one part fear of getting all butthurt in prison because some government employee decides something completely reasonable might be a violation of a nonsense deranged law that is only partially what it was supposed to be, and so is as unhinged as can be.

Remember, these are the same people who decided that shoelaces are machine guns.

So, am I correct in thinking that nobody is going to buy one of these kits because they think it will be illegal to revert the carbine back to pistol configuration???

Does anybody know someone who has bought one already? If so, what do they think of it?

Carbine kits don't seem like they ever really become that popular. I've seen people trying to sell those Glock ones and 1911 ones for years. The one for the Neos is selling at some places for close to $300, sometimes even more. It's the same dilemma with .22 conversion kits for pistols. You can usually buy an entire gun that's just as good if not better for about the same amount of money. I'll admit that I have one .22 conversion that I use regularly though.

So, has anyone here made the leap and buy the Carbine Kit?

I've searched the forum (lightly) and haven't seen anything but two threads including this one. That explains the thread necromancy.
