I am in the market for a .22LR pistol, and I'm looking towards either the S&W 22A or the Beretta Neos.

My initial thoughts were leaning towards the Neos.

-The "ray gun" looks don't really bother me, and I'm a sci-fi guy, so it kinda works.
-My dad already has two 22A's, so this would be different. Since he has the 22A's, I'd get the Neos and then we would have one of each.
-The carbine kit which is coming to America was what really made the Neos attractive to me. And seeing pictures, I do like the looks when it is converted into a carbine.

What is stopping me however is the price. From what I've been able to find, the Neos is a few bucks more than the 22A, and the Conversion Kit looks to be at the moment the same price as the Neos.

So basically I can get either one gun that I can convert to a carbine with the Neos, or I could go with the 22A and then get a Rifle, so I'd have two guns.

So any thoughts?

I have the Beretta U22 NEOS, and it is an excellent gun. I was asked by someone to put 1,000 rounds through it w/o cleaning it, and it did it. I had two misfires, and they were the ammo, not the gun. It's not picky about ammo like some rimfires can be, and with the 6" barrel, it's got so little recoil it usually makes people laugh. But it's still very accurate, and the magazines are really easy to reload.

I thought the gun was ugly as sin until I saw one in person.

If you don't mind the looks, it's a great, great gun.

I don't mind the looks, and its looks even add to the attraction factor. I like being different.

I didn't like the safety placement on the Neos.

You may as well not use it, unless someone can tell me how they get a thumb or finger back there...

Why don't they still make the S&W 422? :(

highorder: The safety is "backwards" to those familiar with the manual safeties of a 1911, but I've never had a problem with them. I just flick my shooting hand thumb upwards and it pops the lever right up into "off".

KegCommando: I've only used the bulk, 500 round bricks. Maybe it won't like the more expensive "match" .22 LR ammo, but I probably won't ever know.

When I did my 1,000 round marathon, I used two bricks of Remington Golden Bullet, so really it was closer to 1,100 rounds without cleaning. I've also shot a brick of the Federal stuff, Winchester XPert, American Eagle, and also some of the Federal ammo that came in a 250 round box. I forget what it was called, but the bullets were round nose as opposed to hollow point like most of the bulk ammo out there.
