Just an update on the problem with the 10mm Beretta handgun I brought up about a month and a half ago. As I had mentioned, everything seamed to be in perfect working order but the gun still double fired. Though I have yet to get the opportunity to test fire the results, I am pretty sure I found the problem, which was 1., not my fault or doing and 2, something I never would have figured out on my own.
Today, I received a new Beretta handgun, a Double action only 92FS which I noted was a Double action only in the sense that it did not have a firing mechanism and is otherwise mechanically the same as a regular 92. This means that the hammer drops with the slide and only the drop safety is there to prevent it from automatically going off again and as many of you know, the drop safety is all you need. What I noted that is of any importance here is that the drop safety did not raise again with the return of the slide, a function I had never seen in the past on my first Beretta before or after the 10mm conversion and I suspect for being a minor factory defect. This also explains why double firing was an occasional issue in the past for other shooters (never had it myself) before the conversion and only amplified with the addition of the heavier slide and recoil spring. I had also noted that with the tuning of the trigger link which controls all of this, the trigger now has to move about 3x as far forward before the action resets. If the double firing continues, I will truly be shocked but I am pretty sure it's all fixed now. Just needs to be tested and proven.
