I have been trying to solve the Tomcat spitting the last round out of the magazine problem and after after the latest modification to the follower I think I have solved the issue, as least for my Tomcat.
After trying different grooves cut into the follower I was getting nowhere after around 200 rounds of experimentation with White box, Silvertips, Hyra shok's etc. I decided to grind the grooves back out and using the rougher wheel on the grinder I ground out the grooves. Rather than grinding in the direction that the cartridge travels, I ground it from side to side leaving a gritty feel to the last cartrige as it slides out of the magazine.
Took it to the range yesterday and ran 60 rounds of Federal American Eagle 71 gr. along with some silvertips and it worked wonderfully. no spitting at all!
I had also gently tapped the top of the magazine ears to slightly alter the flip upward of the last cartrid ge but I think the main issue was one of the follower being too smooth. Each time I reloaded the magazine I made sure to wipe the soot off the follower.
The only other thing I did different was to grease the rails with Tetra a little more liberally. The size of the Tomcat makes soot a issue after 50 or 60 rounds and I don't think I will shoot it more than that without cleaning. The builup in the ramp into the barrel gets pretty dirty by then.
I bought this handgun new a month ago and was a little bummed that it had the last round issue but it shot so well for me that I decided to try and work the problem out rather than dump it.
Judging from how it is wearing in I don't see this gun being much more than a 2K - 3K round gun. I could be wrong but that is my take on it. Hope this helps someone.
