Berry's Bullet Data

Hello Everyone.

Anyone have some load data for berry's 124Grain RN for 9MM using Unqiue powder? Or berry's 230 grain RN for 45 acp using Unqiue powder?

Just wanted to see what other ppl were using for that combo.

Berry's suggest using jacketed data. I don't have any data for 9mm but for those .45 I use 6.0gr of Unique seated to 1.25" with CCI 300 primers. Awesome load in a 4" and 5" XD.

berry's 124Grain RN for 9MM

I use 5.0 Unique seated 1.120" in three different guns. (S&W 39, SIG P6 & XDc)

Here is what Berry says:

Plated bullets occupy a position between cast bullets and jacketed bullets. They are soft lead, but have a hard outer shell on them. When loading plated bullets we have found best results using low- to mid-range jacketed data in the load manual. You must use data for a bullet that has the same weight and profile as the one you are loading. Do not exceed mid-range loads. Do not use magnum loads.

I don't use the 124gr in 9mm...

For the 230gr RN plated (I have used Rainier) my recipe is:

Rainier 230gr RN Unique 6 gr 1.255" COL

Work great for me in my Bersa Ultra Compact.

Hodgdon has recently listed quite a few loads for Berry's bullets on their website loading data. Of course they won't have Unique listed, but there are lots of other choices of tested data they've listed.

Fred, do you have a link? I just went to the Hodgdon Reloading center for 9mm and don't see any Berry's plated bullets listed... I'd love to see them referenced by more mfr's.

All Hodgdon shows in 9mm is a 130 GR. BERB RN.

BERB = Berry's Bullet.

Not sure how they came up with a 130 grain Berry 9mm though???

I use 6.0 gr unique for the 230' s and 5.5 gr for 124's using jacketed oal data

Hodgdon has recently listed quite a few loads for Berry's bullets on their website loading data.

At the dismay of Berry's MFG, only 40S&W load data for 155/165/180 gr bullet weights were added for their "regular" plated thickness and not the thicker plated (TP) bullets.

Not much, but enough to give us reloaders much needed verification, especially for higher pressure 40S&W.

Berry's have 130gr rn and 135gr rn 9mm (.355/.356). I've loaded them and they run fine. They only come with the regular plating. None are "TP"/thick plating, so they can't be loaded hot.

Most Berry's bullets will tell you on the order page what FPS you should not exceed with that particular bullet. If your reloading manual shows FPS that will give you an idea (you won't be shooting your bullets out of the reloading manual author's test barrel, so your mileage WILL vary). If you start push a plated bullet to fast the plating will release from the core. You will know pretty quick when you have keyholing or shrapnel marks in your target. They do make thick plate versions of their more popular bullets. Those can be pushed closer to max jacketed data.

The 130 grain and 135 grain bullets are primarily for the .38 Super, but can be loaded in 9x19, though I prefer lighter bullets in that caliber. For most Berry's bullets I use jacketed data and it works just fine.

If you run them at 1,450 fps through your 357 Sig, the regular plated bullets will tumble, and take out the left upright on your chronograph............
