I compared prices today, from Berrys, for 9mm 115 grain, plated RN, vs. 9mm 115 grain, RN FMJs from Precision Delta.

And Berrys 230 grain, plated .45ACP RN, vs. Precision Delta's 230 grain FMJ RNs.

In both cases, the bullets from Delta Precision were cheaper. Not much, but still cheaper. With FMJs, the concerns about plated bullets go away. Why buy the Berry plated bullet, when I can get FMJs from Presicion Delta, for a lesser price?

I bought 1000 9mm 115s and 1000 158 LSWC 38 spls from precision delta, I wouldn't even consider buying Berry's, quality from PD was good, why spend more for a compromise plated bargain round? I know they're cheap at Cabela's and some people have had luck with them, but all else equal I'll take an actual FMJ any day.

I feel the same way. I've never used Berry's, but why pay a premium for lesser quality bullets. Precision Delta is the place to go IMO. That said, I did order some Berry's through a local group buy, but only because they were about $30 per 1000 than the PD's with the group buy price.

I just discovered this company today and will most likely be placing an order in the next day or two. I've heard good things and the price is right!

IMO no reason to purchase plated at the same price, or even close, as FMJ.

Your barrel might like plated better and shoot them more accurately with a given powder. It's a variable worth exploring.

For me and my purposes (IDPA) they have performed as close to identically as you are probably going to find between any two given bullets. Changing nothing about the load, the only difference I could find was +20fps over the chrono for the Berrys.

I buy whatever is cheaper, which at retail is usually PD due to the free shipping. Be aware they often have a wait time, and a little variation in ogive shape and slight variations in weight, but for general purpose blasting ammo this shouldn't matter either way.

I have shot several thousand Berry bullets. I have no beef with them. I haven't been reloading that long and I have just investigated Precision prices.

It looks like there are two advantages to Berry's:
1) I can buy in increments (of 250) smaller than 1,000, and still get free freight, if the order is over $50. The drawback is a higher price per round.
2) The lead is fully encased in the copper plate.

It seems that Precision offers a better bullet, at a better price.

Are there other brands that I should consider? I'm done with un-plated, un-jacketed bullets!

Yes, I do not hesitate to suggest hard coated bullets from Precisionbullets.com, or for even less cost, Bear Creek Bullets from extremeventuresnv.com Extreme Ventures is just getting into selling Bear Creek, so only limited styles are available right now.

They also sell in smaller quantities (500 or less depending on source) and for less cost than Berry's, X-Treme, or Precision Delta. No exposed lead, load them with lead data, no more cleaning required than with plated/jacketed, lower cost, shoot well, dies stay clean, no black stuff on hands, free shipping, what's not to like?

If you are concerned about lead exposure, PD makes a JHP with no exposed lead at the base.

My XD (meaning, the operator) shoots tighter groups with .356 vs. .355 bullet dia. Trust me, I need all the help I can get when trying to get smaller groups.

+ 1 for Berry's

I've used a lot of Berry's plated bullets in my pistols with good results. I've also used PD FMJ and they work great as well so not promoting Berry's necessarily.

The possible advantages others have noted for Berry's are correct (depending on your situation) regarding full covereage vs lead exposure on base of FMJ, bullet diameter etc.

It is also worth noting that the prices for Berry's are for 1000 including shipping. If you order the FMJ's from PD you must order in qty's of 2000 or more. Not a bad thing just but another thing to consider.

Hope his helps!
Bob

I have had nothing but PROBLEMS with Berry plated Bullets. Quality control just does not exist in that company.

Just my experience with them.

Other options include Montana Gold, and Nosler seconds which are sold through Shooters Pro Shop (just do a web search for 'Nosler seconds'). I've picked up quite a few .45acp 230gr JHP and 185gr JHP from them for very reasonable!

For bulk purchases, you can't beat Precision Delta. X-Treme plated bullets are another option as well.

I never buy my Berry's bullets from Berry's. Check out www.tjconevera.com. There prices are for 1000 ct/shipping is included. They are about $12 cheaper than Berry's on my 40s&w bullets.

TJ's
Berry's
115gr RN 9mm- $82
230gr RN 45acp- $128

XTreme Plated
115gr RN 9mm- $79
230gr RN 45acp- $121

All prices include shipping, and they ship fast. I order on Friday, and have them on Monday. looks like Berry's is about the same on 9mm, but are still $10 more than TJ's.

Would be interesting to hear your problems,I've used there 380,9mm, 40 and
45acp for years without an issue.

I agree with wingman. I have loaded about 9000 Berry's 40s&w bullets this year without a problem. I also have 2000 Berry's .40 bullets on my bench that I'm working with now that look and measure out great. I have also had no problems with PD FMJ bullets either.

I began using Precision Delta FMJ for 9MM and 45 ACP several months ago and I am very pleased with the results.

The only bullets I shoot jacketed anymore is 9mm. I've bought 6k of PD and have had good luck with them. Now I've started buying from Montana Gold cause they're a few bucks cheaper when I buy the case of bullets. I dont notice any difference. If I didnt have the money to buy 300 dollars worth of bullets at a time I would probably look other places as well. I guess its all in your budget. Like with other componets I've spent up to 700 dollars on an order just to save money. I like saving money, even if that means I got to spend a lot of it to save a lot:)

You can't go wrong with either. "Both good bullets" As for the 2000 bullet limit for free shipping you can order a thousand of one caliber and a thousand of another and your order will qualify for the free shipping. You won't be sorry with either bullet...
