I stopped by a local gun shop today and was talking to the owner. Within the small talk he mentioned that Bersa was to come out with a 1911. Has anyone heard this? I dont know how much truth there is to this but an affordable 1911 from Bersa might be the ticket.....

However, Thunder 45 is NOT A 1911 design...I have not heard of a Bersa 1911, but I guess it's possible.

I'm not sure how Bersa could make them any cheaper or more reliable than RIA. Due to the nature of the 1911 design, there really is a limit to how many corners you can cut and have a working example.

shot one of these at the range last trip and was pleasantly suprised. Shot well, fed well, gripped well. A little tough on the web between thumb and index. Definately a gun worth the it's low price.

If Bersa built a 1911 I assume they would use aluminum as they have on their other guns. Not for me.

well i asked the guy if he was referring to the thunder .45 and he said it was different. He talked like it was full sized. I dont know if any of it was true but i figured if anyone would know the facts, someone on this site would chime in. Thanks for the imput so far fellas.

I believe the "American Classic" 1911 is being imported by Bersa/Firestorm. They are decently priced but I went with the RIA Tactical instead...they have top notch customer service.

The new Firestorm and American Classic have been added to Eagle imports Line of firearms.
Bersa makes the Firestorm DS/SA pistols . Now the 1911 has joined the Firestorm line up. It is made in Phillipines by Metro Arms . The Firestorm and American classic are 1911 compatiable and my American classic has been flawless from the box. These are same pistols except for roll mark.
They have a lifetime warrenty and will use the warrenty service that Bersa use.
Come to http://bersatalk.com
and learn more .A few other members also have the new Firestorm and American Classic

Please don't confuse the NEW Firestorm with the now discontunied Llama of years past. This new Pistol is far better than any Llama . Is right with the Rock Island in relieabilty and has a nice blue job. Mine has a 3 3/4lb trigger right from box and slide feels like on ball bearings.

Well, yeah. That's kinda obvious from the photos! I have five 1911's, I know what they look like. Merely stating that Bersa already has a .45 out. I wonder how well they shoot.....

The Firestorm 1911 isn't a 1911 either.

It was my first 45. No bushings in the grips, so aftermarket grips won't work. Plunger tube out of spec. Thumb safety out of spec. So loose, a stiff fart would knock it off-safe.

Mine ended up falling apart in my hand while shooting. Literally. Plunger tube fell off, plunger sprung and plunger shot out to God knows where... thumb safety wriggled out, then followed by the grip safety.

Complete POS.

They have a newer model. I handled one the other day at the pawn shop. It was actually pretty nice (crisp sfety, tight slide, nice finish, nice grips, good trigger pull.) Would have bought it, but couldn't bring myself to, after the last experience.

I've learned that there are deals to be had, but with 1911s, you get what you pay for. RIA is a diamond in the rough, aside from that, there's no way I'd go cheaper than a Springfield GI or Mil-Spec.

I think you had the old Firestorm, made by the now-defunct Llama. As posted above, the new Firestorm pistols are made in the Philippines by Metro Arms. Completely different from what you had.
