I'm not sure if this has been discussed at length before, but does anyone have any experience good or bad with these particular pistols? I'm not looking to get one now, but maybe in the future sometime...Thanks in advance.

Withput getting real expensive, the Springfield XD in 45 would be a better choice than either one, IMO.

PT145

I have never shot the Bersa .45 so I can't comment on that one. But, I really like my PT145 Mil Pro. In would just try them both out and buy the one that fits you best. Both have a lifetime warranty.

Having owned a Bersa I would suggest the Taurus for a variety of reasons. First of all, aftermarket support for the Bersas is almost non-existant. I haven't heard many say they regretted thier purchase of the PT145 but if you do they are hot in the market right now and you could easily sell it to get a Bersa. I tried for a long time to sell my Bersa and noone would buy it. I finally traded it for a CZ52. (love the CZ by the way). Also, so you know, I am not a fan of Taurus. I didn't seriously even consider a PT145 until I handled a pt145 Pro at the gunshop yesterday. It was pretty sweet. I'm sure I'll end up with one.

My carry pistol is the PT145. I got it NIB from a dealer at a show last year for all of $305. It fit my hand perfectly, it's slightly narrower than my Springer 1911 and the 10+1 capacity should be enough to get out of trouble. It is heavier than I expected whenloaded but the 11 rounds of 230gr is part of that.

I did add a Hogue Wraparound grip and that helps to keep it in my hand without it moving around during rapid fire. The factory grip design is good, but the hard plastic may become slippery if your hand gets wet.

At 5 yards, it will shoot <2" groups and that should be adequate for self-defense situations. The recoil is very manageable with 230gr loads (Remington Golden Saber JHP's).

I have over 300 rounds through it now and I have not had any problems at all. OVerall, I think it was a good price for a CCW pistol.

Hi

I don't have the Bersa .45, but do have the 380 (thunder). IMHO this gun is so easy to break-down and clean, just like the glocks.

I only held a PT145m but thats about it. Sorry I was no help here.

About Bersa, they are a PERFECT carry pistol. Great feel and love the compact size of it.

Can't go wrong w/ a Bersa, and the price ;)

I have owned a Bersa thunder .380 and I still own a PT-145. I too thought about getting a Thunder .45. The Bersa .380 was very accurate and pretty reliable, on the down side the finish was real thin, didn't have much customer support as far as I could see and I had to rig the trigger spring to keep it from popping loose. I still looked at the Bersa .45 but it felt akward and bulky to me.

The PT-145 has been great! Very reliable (the blue finish is thin also but not as poor as the Bersa). The PT-145 is my CCW and considering all the holstering it gets the finish still looks nice. I coated the pistol with gun wax just to keep the finish from getting too dinged up. Paid around $300 and it's worth every penny. My first shot with it was dead red at 15 yards.....I currently shoot most of my guns at 20 yards and the PT-145 (when I do my part) groups better than a 3" pistol should.

I'm sure both pistols are fine it really comes down to personal preference, but I think the ergonomics of the PT-145 , the warranty and service (if ever needed) push it over the top for me.

Not sure if this is going to be any help but here goes...

A few months ago me and my buddy are at the range shooting. I was shooting the PT145 and he had his Bersa. I kept firing away with out any problems and he spent most of the time trying to fix jams and complaining about the pistol shooting low. I thought maybe it was him so I gave it a try and it shot low for me and jamed Twice in one mag. I didnt want him to have a bad trip to the range so I let him finish off the 300 rounds of Blazer Brass in the Pt145 and I put a few hundred through my PT1911 :D

Om a side note. He did not have one problem with my Pt145 and was hitting right where he was aiming.

IMO, I think the 145/745 is going to go in the records as one of the best compact 45 ACP autos in a long time. They're just...GOOD. Reliable, accurate, one of those sweet designs that comes along once in a long while. Taurus really nailed it with those. I think they look nice, too, sleek, not the XD's mutated lego brick busyness.

(The 745 is the same as the 145, just with a single-stack grip for a more slender profile.)

I have quite a few handguns in my collection (over 750) I own an example of all the Springfield XDs since the start with a first gen HS2000 my favorite btw is the XD40 in the 5" with the xd45 5" running second (the 40 is the more accurate of the two) its a great SERVICE level gun but NOT the best concealable choice I use a Kel-tec p3at when I need total concealment but a Taurus PT145 Mil-pro is with me any other time, I was skepticcal of the lil gun when my wife originally bought it but fell in love with it and ended up buying a PT140 milpro for her which she liked the slightly smaller grip better on and I took over the 145.

I have a Bersa thunder 45, it required some work to get it reliable but still it just sits in the rack in one of the gun rooms, seldom gets used, the PT145 now has over 8,000 rnds of full power handloaded 230 grn hollow points through it and has never had the slightest issue, it didn't even have any breakin issues when my wife first bought it.

I have gotten to a point in my life that allows me to spend 80% of my time working on collecting and shooting my guns, I don't have to look at price tags anymore to decide what gun I'm gonna buy but yet the inexpensive lil Taurus is one that I am never without even though my favorites are 1911 pattern guns and I have several that are the same size if not smaller than the PT145 Mil-pro and deffinetly cost more its still the one I always have slipped in my waist band at 4:00 position when I go out, the p3at is for when I'm running one of the over the road trucks myself since the gov. has decided commercial drivers should not be armed, its advantage is it can be hidden where the 145 can't, My company transports military loads and my personal truck has been searched many times by the military as well as police officers in some of the most ANTI-gun states in the country without the p3at ever being discovered but its always close at hand.... many will put down this gun or that because its not a full size combat sidearm but if your looking for a totally reliable easily concealed relativly high capacity (10 rnds versus 6 for a colt officers) .45 ACP the pt145 fits the job perfectly.

I do alot more shooting than most so my group sizes are not a good comparison but I have let many shoot the lil .45 everyone with basic handgun knowledge always manages at least 4" groups first time with it and are shooting closer to 2" - 3" at 25 yards by the time they are done with a hundred rnd box of handloads... Most people shooting one of my XDs don't make that much of an improvement that fast, I usually carry one of my 5" XDs either the 40 or 45 when just out running around in the desert, again the right tool for the job, when concealment isn't a factor the bigger gun gets used, but even then the PT145 is tuncked in my waistband as a backup. Our property is right in the path of a major drug smuggling and illegal alien "highway" into Arizona and on more than one occasion myself or one of my employees have exchanged fire with drug runners while out away from the main house and its fenced/secured 5 acres, I have no problem trusting the lil pt145 as my only sidarm usually with a FAL in the vehicle, I've made 100 yard hits with the XD40 Tactical while the pt145s trajectory becomes a rainbow at 60 yards but thats not the job its intended for, its job is in the event I'm surprised while the FAL is outa reach to keep my attacker at bay while I get to the rifle... it does that job perfectly!

You know those Taurus PT-145 Mil Pro's.......I really think there is a conspiracy between Taurus and the ammo manufacturers. Why would anyone build a gun with such reliability and accuracy and one that is just a hoot to shoot????? I'll tell you why....it's because the ammo manufacturers want us to love to shoot them so much and get dependent on them for our recreation, that we blindly go into the stores and buy box after box of their ammo...........

Oh....anyway...I really like my PT-145. Had it a couple of years and have fired over 3000 rounds without any problems. Super accurate, shoots to point of aim, fun to shoot. Occupies the pocket of any pants I wear either as a BUG or Primary in the office.

Never owned a Bersa....I have handled & shot one though and it just wasn't my cup of tea.

I have the Bersa UC (well, the Mini-Firestorm, but it's the exact same gun). It's been an outstanding gun. Reliable, accurate, easy to shoot and the recoil is surprisingly light for such a small gun. The ergonomics are superb. It ranks as one of my all time favorites. I don't have enough experience with the Taurus to make a comparison, but the Taurus would have to be an exceptional gun to even get close.

Wow someone mentioned a Bersa 45 wow.
I have been unfortunate to own the Bersa. Now everyone swears by the .380 which i owned also. With that said I'd probably get another .380 but i suggest you don't go near the 45.
Using the sights was useless and accuracy got worse over time. The nickel finish peeled like a potato and the damn things magazine release broke leaving me with a used $400 paper weight. (I got hosed on price since i see new ones for about 350 to 380). It was my first gun and i didn't know better at the time. Lesson learned.
It literally almost made me cry.(I'm not even joking) Owning one gun and it's broke is scary.
No comment on the other gun though. Save your money and get something better then either. I do have faith in Taurus though.

Mine wasn't this UC you people are talking about. Don't know whats that is. Is it' different from the standrd.

Nice post. It's good to read since I just ordered a P-3AT today and was really looking at the Taurus PT145. 10 rounds of 45 ACP in such a concealable and apparently reliable gun makes an awful good argument for owning one. I may just order one when I pick up my P-3AT.

Ok well i know its not the same gun but i own a bersa thunder .380 and a millenium pt-145, I love the 45 for having that up close and personal punch, but that .380 is one sweet gun for the money, it is extremly accurate and fun to shoot, not to mention your quick recovery shot. I would not hesatate to purchase another gun from ethier companies in the future.

ill echo others in saying that the pt145 is a great pistol. i cant help but wonder "how'd they get all them rounds in there..."

Taurus

PT 145 my second favorite gun for ccw. My first is a kel tec p3. Stick with taurus, lifetime warranty, reliable compact and a great price along 11 rounds of .45 in such a small package. Im happy with mine.

I have good experiences with the Bersa models. The major issue with Bersa is the limited after market accessories form them. One mag only with purchase and if you buy an extra original one they then to be either price or hard to find in a local gun shop. But. It that's not an issue with you, very reliable weapon.

Good point. Another strike against the Bersa is that spare mags are EXPENSIVE. Upwards of 50 bucks at times.

I have also read that the .45 Bersas are a bit notorious for weak springs. Not a big deal because you can get upgrades from Wolffe but it is still a consideration.

Bersa autos

I own a Bersa thunder 380 and a Bersa 40 S&W. I have found both guns to be accurate and reliable I have shot over 1000 rounds with the 380 (just fired another 100 rounds today with the 380). The 40 S&W is to me, smoother shooting, and a pleasure to field strip, flip a lever, and it comes apart. The trigger pull on the 40 has the same feel to me, first round or second. The 380 on the other hand is a much harder pull on the first double action shot. I read a lot of bad press about Bersa, but the Kimber 1911 45 Cal. I sold because of unreliable behavior did not have a life time warranty as Bersa does.
