Bersa Thunder UC in 9mm,,, anyone own one?

I just received a small windfall,,,
I now have the hots for a new handgun,,,
I'm thinking I could always use another 9mm pistol.

I'm thinking something between my full size CZ-75B,,,
And my diminutive Ruger LC9.

I own two Bersa Thunder pistols and am very happy with them,,,
Now I'm wondering if a Thunder UC in 9mm would make me smile.

So, if anyone has one of them,,,
Or even just some experience with one,,,
I would love to read about the good and bad of the gun.

Pics of yours and the holsters you use,,,
Would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I have one (actually I've got a Firestorm mini-9 Pro. The only difference is the rollmark and the Firestorm has a rounded trigger guard vs. the squared one on the Bersa. The Firestorm version is no longer being made, kinda' like Pontiac vs. Chevy).

My experiences with this pistol have been very good. I can't remember ANY malfunctions. It's a bit chunky but it fits my hand very well and I like the layout of the controls. Any accuracy issues are mine and not the pistol's. Field stripping for cleaning is extremely easy.

Pros - reliability, ergonomics, accuracy, price

Potential cons - It has the internal lock which bothers some even if they don't use it. I actually like and use it.
It has a magazine disconnect which is important to some people.
The space between the notch on the rail and the trigger guard is very short so some accessories won't fit.
The sights don't have the traditional 6 O'clock hold but if you're used to a Bersa Thunder this will not be an issue for you.

My guess is that if you like the BT380 you'll love the BT 9UC. Good Luck.

Dan

I have the UC9 and it is a fine gun. Does have an internal lock, but the mechanism is extremely simple. No mag disconnect on the UC9.

Safety/decocker is frame mounted and down to fire. Up disconnects trigger and decocks. Controls are good, but make it wide. Grip is long enough to get all 3 fingers on with pinky rest on the mag.

Mine needed about 100 rounds break in and runs great now. Easiest gun to field strip that there is. Hard to beat for an all metal hammer fired compact.

I am really curious

About their new striker fired poly gun...too new so I have not seen any reviews. I have the Bersa Thunder 380 and I fully enjoy it. Very easy to strip down to the nuts and bolts, and yes, it has that bury the target sight picture...LOL

I did have an e-clip break, called Bersa, gave them the serial number and had it in two days...didn't even need to send them a receipt. Sort of wish I had gotten the 9mm BUT am happy with the 380

If your 380s put a smile on your face the UC9 will make you ecstatic. IMO one of the smoothest and nicest triggers out there. At least on mine.

Get one. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

The good and the bad...

I recently sold my Thunder UC, both 40 S&W and 9mm barrels with four magazines. I acquired the UC in 40 S&W but quickly added the 9mm barrel/slide so it was basically two guns. I stumbled across a Browning BDA 380 at a local shop and knew I wanted that gun. My only option was to trade-in a gun that had some value and that was my UC. The LGS gave me a decent price for the UC setup so with some cash, off I went with the Browning. A couple of weeks later at the same LGS, I asked about my Bersa and he said 'it was long gone'. Someone snapped it up as soon as it hit the display case.

The good: Terrific quality gun, never failed to chamber, fire and eject a round in either caliber. Having two calibers on one frame is a bonus. The UC is the easiest semi I've ever owned to tear down. I also have an older Bersa Model 85 (1980's vintage 380, steel framed) and love that piece. Bersa makes very good quality stuff. Barrels, slides, magazines, parts are readily available through Eagle Imports. Highly recommend any Bersa gun and doing business with Eagle Imports.

The bad: The UC was a bit too bulky for a carry piece so it was designated as a range gun. The real problem was I just couldn't get any accuracy out of it in either caliber so she eventually became a locker queen. I found the trigger pull was so long that I lost control by the time it fired. That's me, it may not be that way for anyone else.

Well...

I have my eye on some other 9mm....SO MANY to choose from...lol

My Bersa Thunder 380 is sweet though. Very easily concealable, works very well. Also, if one takes the time to study and play with the mechanics of the gun, the shooting and trigger are pretty awesome.

My only gripe (if it is one) is the takedown method should be smoother. I am always afraid I am going to damage the recoil spring. But as to the rest ? Very easy to take apart, upper and lower.

That's true with the Thunder 380 but not so with the Thunder UC, two different guns. The UC is the easiest semi-auto to tear down. Flip the lever and off pops the slide. I was able to change calibers (barrel, slide, rod and spring) within 30 seconds. The Bersa M85 is truly a bear to tear down.

I like my UC9 Pro plenty. Thin and light it is not. But it's dependable and accurate.
I plan on scooping up the .45acp UC45 and 9HC someday.

Thanks gentlemen,,,

Thanks gentlemen,,,
Most of my questions have been answered.

Now I think it will be worth the long drive,,,
To a gun store that has one I can fond, eerrr, handle.

I don't think I will mind the "chunkiness",,,
As long as my K-frame hands will wrap around the grip,,,
Perhaps the "meaty" weight will tone down the recoil a little bit.

Now, to find one.

One last comment. The 1.45" is actually the dimension from side to side of the safety not the 'handle'. The grip is much less.

I had 2 and both were great pistols. My son has one, and I sent other over to my nephew as he need a pistol for home.
Be careful .,The pistol comes with a 10 round for those states and a 13 round for free America. But some dealers don't care or don't know and will order the 10 round . My dealer had 1 of each . He said he just ordered and took what came .

The 9UC is considered by many members on bersachat.com to be the best Bersa made.

Also they come with 2 mags. Some dealers been known to remove 1 to sell to the buyer or another owner. Don't fall for only comes with 1 mag . That the 380 Thunder line with 1 mag only

My Thunder 9 UC Pro is probably the most reliable and easy to shoot pistol I have. The grip is a little thick, but that makes it feel good in my hand (big hands) and I conceal it in a homemade kydex and leather IWB holster. Any long tail shirt makes it disappear. I like it so much that I'm considering getting the .45 version as well. By the way, in over a thousand rounds fired, I've had ZERO malfunctions!

Very reliable. Not particularly accurate. Sufficient for SD, but I would never shoot my 4-inch clays (at 30 feet) pistol matches with it. Inside 20 feet, it will do the job.
