I'm about to pick up a Bersa Thunder .380 as a CCW piece. I've seen the duotone and the nickel, but not the matte. The nickel looks _really_ nice.

I'm curious what will hold up best when the gun is carried and living in a holster most of the time. Any insights?

I have a matte black and nickle. I''ve been carrying the black one for a little over a year and seven months in an Uncle Mike's nylon waistband holster-no finish wear at all. I would suggest the black is better for concealment. Somehting shiny inside your coat could attract attention, while that black "something" could just be a cell phone.

My nickle plated model is also very durable, although it is my bedroom shelf and range practice Bersa, so it has a pretty pampered life. Over the long term I think, by looking at them, the nickle model would be more durable to CCW, depending on how rough you are with it and what kind of lining your holster has.

By the way, for practice shoot Blazer, very accurate and inexpensive. For carry mine is stunning with Remington 88gr and Magtech FMJ's.

As a side note, we lived in Virginia Beach for a year and three in Newport News. My second daughter was born there, 27 years ago, and I still call her "Belle" as in Southern Belle, daughter of the South. I always wonder if we had stayed how she would talk today, it'd sure be fun to hear her with that Virginia accent, and her mom and dad are yankees (Michigan).

I would go with the nickle I have the duotone and used as a ccw for a time and no sign of wear.I just like the looks of the nickle. I carry Rem GS 102 in mine.:D

I have the mat finish on a .22 Firestorm model. I don't have it long but so far the finish has held up ok to use at the range. I suspect that the nickel is going to be more durable. I chose the mat finish because my eyes seem to see the sights a little better when they are mounted on a less shiney surface.

Hi :)

The 'satin' nickel finish of the slide can start to look
untactically pimpin'-glossy after repeated soft-holster draws ;)

Nevertheless, it would (to my addled mind) be the toughest
of the available finishes.

In an IWB, if it ever shows it will most likely be the grip that people see, which will still have the black grips, so I imagine it's not _too_ tactically unsound. And it looks REALLY good.

My wife agrees.

In fact, it went like...
"I'm so glad you decided to polish the pistol! I like it so much better when it looks so clean and neat."

When she found out I'd bought an Armscor 1911 GI (just to tinker around with), she asked what finish, and after understanding that 'Parkerizing' meant a dull, dark phosphate, ...ordered me to get it nickeled or hard chromed ASAP.

Good heavens.
The Armscor hasn't even arrived yet and it's already lined up for mods!
 :D

Well, as detailed in another thread my duotone Thunder 380 began to rust after about a year spending a lot of time in a leather holster with semi-regular wipe-downs. I've since had every piece of mine hard-chromed, and would opt for the nickel version if I had it to do over again.

And if the Thunder 380 Super is imported again after the AWB expires, I just may have it do over again :D

I hope you're buying your Bersa at The Armory.

On everything I've looked at so far, the Armory's prices don't compare with A&P. Especially considering that A&P is where I shoot, they give you five range passes with a purchase (which is worth $35-$50 depending on how you use them), plus A&P is literally two minutes from my house.

But my intent is to buy at next weekend's gun show if I find a deal.

What kinds of prices have people seen for these lately? I found the duotone for $210 and the nickel for $240 at my regular gun store, which, as I pointed out above, includes five range passes ($35-$50 value depending on how I use them), which basically makes it $190 for the nickel. I've seen most people saying $200 is a reasonable price for the duotone, so it seems like that is a really good price for the nickel.

I have a deep and abiding distaste for A&P Arms and the owner of that fine outfit, due to various in-store encounters with A&P staff as well as a knowledge of the business history of the store owner with respect to other gun stores, shooting facilities, and gun clubs.

The Armory, on the other hand, has slightly better prices on most items (I believe my duotone was $189 or $199) and is owned and staffed by (in my experience) decent people.

With respect to the A&P range, it is rather nice but I would suggest the VBRPC or NCRR as alternatives. Both will have tables at the Pavilion ;)

I have a nickle plated Bersa and a DLX all black Bersa.
IMO the black is a much better looking pistol and does not need to be polished like the Nickle plated Bersa!

The Bersa is my car and nightstand gun.

Since I don't use the Bersa for carry, finish durability is not an issue for me.

My carry gun is only half as thick and only one third as heavy as the Bersa and still uses the same 380 round!
