What are your thoughts on best bullets for 270 WSM in the 150 to 160,165 gr. flavor? Just wanting to branch out from my usual 130 Sierra and 140 gr. Accubond.

I dont own any of the .27 cals but i load for q couple buddies. Both have switched to the 150 Ablrs, Ive seen the rounds drop cows at 50-75yds and sheep at 300ish.
Iffen i was a .270 man, id probably take a hard look at those.

My son uses 150 Partitions in his for big stuff. I think Accubonds would be a good choice also. I think 150's pack more than enough punch for elk/moose, don't see a need for heavier bullets.

There's 150 and 160 grain data on Hodgdon's site so they can't be that unusual. No$ler and Hornady load 150's. Heavier seems to be reloading only. Finding any will be an issue too. Not many 160's and nothing bigger from the major manufacturers.
More about why you want 'em.

I've just been thinking about bumping up to the higher SD and energy the 150-160 bullets provide just 'cause. Who knows what I might do with them later. I will just get them shooting good now.
This is a reloading question about bullets, I know factory loads can be scarce.

I have had good accuracy with the Nosler 150 gr Ballistic Tips, and my son as taken a couple nice mule deer bucks with them. I also have some150 and 160 gr Partitions, but haven't found them to be as accurate. Also have some of the new150 gr LRAB's, but haven't loaded them yet. Thanks for reminding me. I should do that this week.

Not in my experience. One guy is shooting them out of a late 70s era ADL, the other a new Tikka, Both 1-10s (i think). Ive shot the ADL and the loads we worked up for him run sub MOA....as long as hes not shooting. The other guy only said they are accurate from his gun.

Bergers stability calculator calls them marginal in a 1-10, at a very reasonable 2900fps.

For reference it also calls my .250s 115s marginal in its 1-10 but they shoot wonderfully. Ill need to get them to range to see if i am getting any instability derived bc loss.

Which powder would you recommend? I have been doing RL19 with good results 130gr. bullet. Would RL22 be the right burn rate for 270WSM and 150 gr?

My son likes MagPro in his .270 WSM, while I have been using a cannister version of Accurate 3100, Accurate Data 86. (Neither of which are available anymore). I have a pound each of Reloder 25 and Reloder 26 to try out. I have heard that Reloder 26 is pretty impressive in both the standard .270 Win. and the WSM with heavier bullets. I will give it a shot and see. I need to settle on a new load for mine, too, since my Data 86 is running low.
